It takes 25 min to cook rice on the stove top. So easy. You boil water (2:1  water:rice), add rice, stir exactly one time, cover, turn on low, come back in 20 minutes.
Me: Sesame, shellfish, chamomile, sage
DS: Peanuts

Has anyone done spaghetti sauce yet?  I made it on the stove today and it cooks for only an hour so really not bad at all, but wondering if I can do it in the instant pot.

yeah.....mine is super quick too - and also bright like my chili so I don't think I am going to try it in the IP
prob wont do chili in it again either

my sauce recipe is OLD.....

olive oil
diced onions - cook until translucent (they are optional - but not for me)
diced garlic - add and cook for less than a minute
red pepper flakes - just a pinch if they are fresh
add the water/juice from the tomatoe cans to stop the garlic from cooking
tomatoes - diced, whole, crushed - whatever I have on hand
lots of salt, lots of pepper
bring up to heat then stir and add
tons of chopped parsley and basil
bada bing bada boom it's sauce!

I've done spaghetti sauce. When I do it on the stove I let it simmer several hours. Did like 10 mins in IP.

Thinking about this again. I can get one at Kohl's today for $67 with coupons and Kohl's cash But it's sure to be on sale on Amazon for a similar price in the next few weeks.

Wow!  I just checked Walmart’s preview ad, and just note that it is a 5qt, not the 6qt, advertised for $49.  It’s a great deal, though.  They also make a 3qt and 8qt.

Has anyone tried to make meatballs and jarred sauce in their pot?  I have tried two times and it will not come to pressure.  I should make homemade sauce but we are busy, so sometimes doctored jar sauce is it.  I thought the sauce was too thick so I added water to the top once and to the bottom before the sauce the second time but same result - pot got hot and timer went down but no pressure when I released....I was cooking ahead so I just put the sauce in the crock pot.

I did it this summer on the pool deck for a swim meet and it worked fine.  I feel like it took a long time to come up temp because the meatballs were frozen.  I winged it so no idea what I did...should have taken notes so I know for this summer.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'd like to get one for ds, but don't really want to buy him anything that he has to pack up and take to CA. I wish I could buy now and have it delivered in February! I also have no idea what his living arrangements will be and what he'll need. And his company provides three meals a day ( ~) )so he won't be cooking much anyway.

The 3qt is currently $49 on Amazon.  Not sure if that might be a nice size for a single guy or not, Bensmom.  Maybe better to have a 6qt, and have leftovers when he does decide to cook.  But, thought I’d let folks know.  That’s $29% off the list price.
