Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is warning the food allergy community of a new product with peanuts and peanut ingredients set to roll out across the United States on July 24, 2017.

The new menu item will be available in the company’s shops and other locations where Krispy Kreme doughnuts are sold, according to Kelley O’Brien, director of social media at the company.

While we don’t know the exact ingredients in the new doughnut, Krispy Kreme in Australia makes a Reese’s Peanut Butter Doughnut containing Reese’s peanut butter sauce and peanut butter chips, according to the company’s website.

“The introduction of this specific peanut menu item at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is new, but Krispy Kreme shops have never been allergy-free and specifically nut-free,” O’Brien said in an email statement. “Our shops have ingredients that can contain known allergens, including nuts.”

Krispy Kreme doughnuts have long contained egg, soy and wheat as ingredients, with some products containing dairy and nuts, according to information on the company website. Krispy Kreme products have also carried precautionary or “may contain” warnings that its baked goods could have come in contact with peanuts, nuts and sesame. However, the new product certainly increases the amount of peanut of the stores’ premises.

“None of our shops are free from the possibility of cross-contamination,” the company pointed out.

O’Brien said the company is sharing this news with the allergy community so those living with peanut allergies are aware. “The safety of our customers is our top priority.”

I was just coming to share this.

I stopped eating them years ago because they are no longer close to anywhere I ever go.

They have all but disappeared from my area, but I hardly even noticed.  I think they're gross - waaaay too sweet for me.  :P

yes, with healthy eating trends these days, Krispy Kreme pulled out of many markets in recent years.

Maybe they are hoping introducing nuts may help them to increase sales?

I live in the south - what are healthy eating trends?  I can pick up KK at the food store, drug store, gas station and a few other locations that made me scratch my head.

We stopped buying KK awhile ago because of the soy flour and whispers of no longer being peanut/tree nut safe.  They now have banana crullers which DS1 spotted and singing "It will kill us all, it will kill us all".  Gallows humor I guess.
DS1 - Wheat, rye, barley and egg
DS2 - peanuts
DD -  tree nuts, soy and sunflower
Me - bananas, eggplant, many drugs

They were everywhere when we were on the Gulf Coast a couple of years ago.  It was our first time having them.  Way too sweet!  But the kids liked them.
