Times Square restaurants?
« on: December 11, 2014, 02:31:59 PM »
We are going to be in NYC to see a relative who is in a show at the end of the month. We're staying in Times Square.  We are dealing with dairy, egg, peanut, tree nut, and mustard allergies.  Does anyone have experience with allergy friendly restaurants in the area?

Thank you!

We don't have the same list of allergens, but DS loves Shake Shack.

The Southern Hospitality group of restaurants http://www.southernhospitalitybbq.com/  and the Danny Meyer group  http://www.ushgnyc.com/family/restaurants/ are both supposed to be good with allergies.  They might not be in your immediate area, but NYC is very easy to navigate if you have to travel a little bit.

What show is your relative in?

Not sure which chains you trust, but there are several in and near Times Square.  Hard Rock Cafe and TGIFridays are two that I remember as being right there.   It's been a couple of years though, so my memory is fuzzy on which restaurants we went to in which parts of the city.

Yes, Hard Rock is right there and they are supposed to be very allergy aware.  Forgot about that one.

Hmmm. Sbarro is our go-to quickie place in Times Square, but that won't work for you. We had a good experience at Vynl on 10th I think. They were great for our allergies (different than yours), and it's very very fun. There is a Chipotle near by, but I don't think I would trust that with dairy.

There is a McDs not far from the TKTS booth. It's on a corner and better than the McDs that's a bit more south and on the eastish side of TS.

D'oh - I'm such an idiot!  Google Sloane Miller, aka Allergic Girl. She must have a good list of Allergy Friendly restaurants on her site.  She is based in Manhatttan.

And there are two dairy free bakeries--one near TS (or perhaps Hell's Kitchen) and another in Greenwich Village.

There's a Chipotle on 8th Ave just north of 50th St.  It's pretty much directly across from the Hampton Inn-Times Square North. There's also a McDonald's closer to Times Square on 50th Street.

That's the chipotle we go to before shows. We don't want any surprises when the night is really for the show. :)

Thank you so much, everyone!  We are definitely going to do Chipotle for lunch one day- they'll make food in the back using fresh ingredients away from the dairy if asked- and will investigate some other options.
