Berty, you keep mentioning a supplement.  That WILL NOT help people with allergies.  This forum is for allergies.  Please do not continue to spread dangerous misinformation here.

Fruits like bananas or avocados are especially histamine rich. So it could be possible that you histamine intolerance. That means, every single time if you eat histamine rich food your body reacts with an allergic reaction. Symptoms like itching, sneezing, swollen skin or stuff like that are very common. Food like cheese, wine, fruits, some kind of vegtables are histamine rich as well. But you'll find a list of all the foods which you should not eat on the internet. To make sure if you are histamine intolerance you must go to your doctor for a test. One solution for histmina intolerance is a removed by Admin. It makes it possible to eat everything without any side effects. Cause removed by Admin is controlling the histamine level in your body!
best wishes

I have ana rxns to banana (they think my OAS progressed to anaphylaxis).  My ana rxn happened to cooked banana pancakes.  But I always had itchy throat eating bananas raw and cooked.

I am sensitive to latex (contact rashes and sneezing to balloons) and miserable in regards to adhesives.

No issues with avocado.

Thank you for sharing your experiences.  I thought maybe I was going mental.  I see my GP next week.

DH seems to have intermittent OAS-type symptoms to banana and avocado like you do, but he's not allergic to latex as far as we can tell.

I am allergic to latex and react to bananas and avocados because of that.  I also react to adhesives, but I think that's a separate allergy from the latex.

DS has OAS to bananas (allergy testing was negative).  Our allergist wanted him to avoid bananas completely because she felt even OAS posed a risk of throat swelling which is dangerous regardless of the cause. When he was little and developing allergies right and left, we also tried to avoid latex exposure because we felt the banana OAS could mean a heightened risk of developing latex allergy.  So far, 14 years later, he still seems to not be latex allergic.

They are both definitely cross reactive with latex.  Could certainly be OAS.

But you should still see a non-quack MD, just to be sure.  ;)

I am hoping someone on this board has some links or better information to help me out.  I never trust Google with this stuff.

I seem to have a sensitivity to avocado and raw bananas, but not all the time, just sometimes.  My mouth gets itchy and I sometimes get a runny nose.  I also get rashes and swelling from most bandages and medical adhesives, including many latex-free ones, so I'm not really sure if latex is an issue or not.  It happens so intermittently that I still eat avocado and raw bananas regularly without issue.  Could this be an OAS-type sensitivity/allergy?  One that only pops up when my allergy cup is getting full (even in winter, or maybe if I've used a bandage recently)?  Or could there be a relation to my pre-existing nut and peanut allergies?  Thoughts?

I know I should see an allergist, but the one I've been to is a quack when it comes to food allergies.  My GP is cross-trained in food allergies specifically; I'll mention it to her at my next appointment as well.
