joeybeth, I'm pretty sure Jana has said she has the document she can send to you if you want to use it instead of copying the thread.

I wish I had more detail about Eliz's death above. I read that she was very careful. I would like to know what she was allergic to. This list really does it for me. When I see it I become angry because I deal with so much nonsence that I get thrown off of the reality along with them.

Today I asked a friend of her sweet sixteen's party what they would be serving. Mind you this is a high end kind of place. She responded by saying, "you know, we can't let our kids run our lives, when I take my own daughter to a restaurant I let her know that if she's going to be picky she needs to get a pizza before coming along and call it a day." She went on to add "you should ask her to eat before she goes".

I'm like thinking....I wonder if she's been feeling that I dote too much. I responded by explaining to her that it was necessary for my dd to learn to get around in the world and that it's not the same as her finicky teen situation. Besides, mine can't have pizza or any fast food.

I wonder how she would feel having to cook for a FA child on an already busy day running around for her teen's party. Sheesh, so much for trying to get a day off. But that's exactly what I was intending to do anyway, feed her and carry food before leaving....the nerve of her thinking she had to tell me that. She doesn't get that the only way for us to teach our kids is to practice asking questions and hope they can actually eat out while we engage in our routine of packing food.

Anyway, I thought of sending this list to her but then I thought she'd think me crazy for wanting to feed her out of home. She doesn't get that this is the world our kids must learn to live in....in a different way than a non FA child, in a world that doesn't understand.

Hi HoboEtta,

Obviously this woman just does not get it. People like that used to really bother me and I used to think I needed to educate them. But I soon found that it was not worth the effort. For most (not all, but most) people unless they have to deal with a FA 24/7/365 they just don't get it.

FYI, Food Network is airing a TV special on FA. Here are the specifics...

Edible Enemies
Edible Enemies is a one-hour special report that looks at the mysterious increase in both the number and the severity of food allergies in the United States. 12 million Americans now have food allergies. There is no cure. There is no treatment, other than a shot of epinephrine in an emergency. We will hear from the parents of small children, and from teenagers and adults living with life-threatening food allergies

joeybeth - I just sent you an e-mail.

Emily Vonder Meulin's father sent me an e-mail this morning about another apparent death due to food allergies. The little boy's name was not published.

Emily has a memorial page I was not aware of http://www.foodallergyangel.com/
and it has lots of great information. But a warning that looking at all her pictures is emotional . . .

I tried that link JR, but it's not working. I also tried to copy & paste it into the address. In both cases I just got a page that makes no sense to me.

Thank you for letting me know - I'm not sure what happened to the link but I think it's working now.

This is what I can find about this:

This may be the same boy - the name is published. According to this an autopsy will not be performed

On the foodallergyangel link, it says his name is Karim and they have a picture of him.

It appears to be the same person, but this link uses a Jewish name. Would that be common -- to have two different names?

In the newspaper article someone commented that all the schools in the area are peanut free (which is true in this area). On the yeshivaworld link there is a comment "apparently, the boy just said “ow” and collapsed, getting on to the Yeshiva Bus. " Made me think of an insect allergy.

Also wanted to mention, the other child treated for shock -- it was not ana. shock, it was shock of witnessing what happened.

This is so bizzare. I live in Toronto and some how missed all of this. Hmmm. I suspect that the cause of death must have been pretty aparent if the coroner isn't insisting on an autopsy. I have been in the position of declining an autopsy on a family member and they don't agree to this very easily.

Karim died in England - this is separate name and not the five year old listed on foodallergyangel. The photo is of 13 year old Karim not 5 year old Meir

I have been asking around but haven't found the right person to ask but one of my friends thinks that for very conservative members of the Jewish faith, an autopsy would be considered very innapropriate/disrespectful.

Cannot find any more on this as yet. Simply states a 10 year old boy in the U.S. died from a dairy allergy after drinking a beverage that contained whey...

I can't add any names to this far too long list of names but I could add one (unfortunately I don't know her name) who didn't die from a reaction but suffered horrific brain damage and now lives in a nursing home. Her two teenage children, who were toddlers at the time, the youngest was only 1, cannot remember their mother as she wasSmiley
