Have you called on the source of the vitamin E in the Rice Chex?

DS (04/07)--eggs, mango, cashew, pistachio
DH--shellfish, mushrooms
Me--Sometimes it seems like everything.

You inspired me to call today. When I started to get the 'does the box say "Contains soy"?' question, I stayed really friendly and said, 'I understand this request is unusually specific.' The rep put me on hold and found out! Good show, General Mills.

Turns out the Vitamin E is from corn. Yay if you don't have issues with corn!

(I do have problems with too much corn, but I seem to be able to handle it in small amounts.)

That is good!! I have wondered about General Mills Vitamin E. Since most companies do not take the time to check this, but instead give me the spill that, even if it is made from soy, it should not be a problem, I generally do not call (it is a problem for me...).

This is awesome. And they're making some of their other chexes gluten-free! Soon, I shall have chex mix. It won't have the beloved wheat chex, but I'll survive.

I'll have to make some worcestershire sauce, I bet. Yum.

Two things that I ate yesterday:

Alexia Mozzarella Sticks
Snyder's Sunflower chips - These are so much better than Sunchips in my opinion, but they are processed in a facility with peanut butter

Me: Allergic to soy, egg, barley, tomato, orange, apple, cherry, peach, pear, nectarine, banana, canteloupe, watermelon, severe OAS to others, insect bites (severe to horseflies), way too many environmental allergens, and asthma.

Whole Foods Hearty Chicken w/Wild and Red Rice.

I'm not sure if it has soy lecithin but it does NOT have soy protein. We can never find soups without soy protein and milk in them.

Pacific Foods Organic Spicy Chicken Fajita is completely soy free, and tomato free, which is a big issue with soups for me. It doesn't have milk, but does have kidney beans, so I don't think that it would work for your son, boo.

Also in the completely soy free but not nut safe category - Larabars fruit and nut bars. It seems like people either love these or hate these - luckily I love them, because they're easy to store and transport. They're made mostly with dates and nuts - I was actually really excited to find something made with dates - I love them but can't bring myself to eat the normal whole ones because I think that they look like dead cockroaches...

Enjoy Life Boom CHOCO Boom Chocolate Bars (there is even a coupon right now...yay!!)
Imagine Organic Free Range Chicken Broth (MSG Free too!! check their other broths as well, I believe many of them are soy-free)
Nature's Path Organic Toaster Pastries
Lay's Snacks (I usually buy the Naturals items, however, this is a good list of their soy-free products)

Just as an FYI for other allergens, Lay's has an interactive list of their products, which shows other allergens that are not present in each product.

I Love Frito lay as their website is awesome for allergies.
Is cherry brook soy free too? I am also allergic to peanuts/ treenuts, soy and peas. I've seen their products at my local store but I don't remember if it was soy free too.
I found some of Swanson's chicken broth is soy and msg free. Not all of their beef broth is soy or msg free. ONly the beef stock is.
I also found soy free tortillas. Yay!

Anyone with soy allergy do ok with corn meal? I used to use Goya cornmeal to make cornbread/muffins for my son before he had soy allergy but don't know if it's safe for soy allergy. I read somewhere that some corn products may be contaminated with soy. Maybe it was a concern just for cereals.

Me - PA/TNA/Shellfish & too many MFA including carrots, some legumes, blueberries, banana, arugula, some cheeses like swiss, romano, all melons (also highly allergic to mold, grass, trees, ragweed)

DS - is PA/TNA and sesame/poppy/sunflower allergy & legume allergy. New allergies: soybeans & coconut as of Jan 2010

As I was posting my question yesterday DH was laughing at me saying that corn is made in a corn field how can it be contaminated with soybeans....

He picked up a package of Goya cornmeal and it has a warning on the label "MAY CONTAIN SOYBEAN AND WHEAT".
