Title: Trouble accessing forum?
Post by: SilverLining on August 12, 2014, 09:38:58 AM
I received a message on FB from someone who is not able to access the forum.  Has anyone else had problems, or heard from anyone else having trouble?

Managed to make it in with old phone but cannot access via iPhone or computer on FireFox or IE (latter always being sketchy).

I was beginning to think I was banned.  Because I have really bad PMS, really stressed, arguing with people who like to argue.  Woe is me, I am being overly dramatic.

Sorry guys-- it was not just us, though-- it was ALL of OLI, though, so it was at the server level.

I could not get in via Firefox, via my mobile browser on my Android phone, etc.

Sorry!!

Glad everyone is back.

Sorry if I was slow with replies.  DH is on vacation, so I've been on-line less.

SL - no worries and no apologies, you need offline time as well  :smooch:

I am just having a mind racing day (and I wonder where DS2 gets it from  :hiding:).  I cried all the way to trampoline, usually stoic DS1 shed tears three times today, DS2 cried and threatened to move away (I may have made the big jump into our homeschool time a little too fast, trying to figure out what they can handle) and well Em cries if the wind catches her wrong these days.

This was message I got, BTW:

Is it possible this might be related to massive online shopping traffic nationwide?

Just thinking . . .

Or maybe has to do with the spam challenges of late?

Finally able to get on boards . . . we've been so darned dependable here at Oli since we left HB that it felt really weird to NOT get into boards!!

But all is good now, for me anyway.

Yesterday I could only get the front page to load . . . could never click through to a link or read at all.  Finally gave up last night.

Today after doing a bunch of Windows updates, all works fine.

Don't know what caused the glitch for me & don't really know why it's all fine today.

Just an FYI.

The last time I was able to post from my phone, which is where I post from 99% of the time, was October 19.

iPhone 6s, OS 9.0 (at this moment, I am upgrading to 9.1, and it will be interesting to see if that fixes it)

I have restarted my phone--did not help.  I have cleared all of my safari pages, and that did not help.

What happens:

--I type a post in Reply or Quick Reply, and when I hit Post, I get the pink box that says my post is timed out.  Trying again from there is  unsuccessful.

--I am unable to log out.

--I am unable to switch users.

Logging out and trying to switch users gets me this message:

Hmm. It's got to be something with your phone because I post from my phone and iPad exclusively evenings and weekends and haven't run into that problem. I'm on a 5s with 9.0.1 (I think?  It says my update would be 9.0.2.).

I'll take a look around the forum software support forums and see if anyone else mentions a problem.

Post by: rebekahc on October 27, 2015, 07:52:06 AM
I searched the help forum and found people talking about similar problems (off and on since about 2010), but it was more global - everyone from their forum or everyone using a certain browser, etc.  There was no real resolution in any of the threads - it just seemed like it got randomly better.  The most common link between forums having the issue was using GoDaddy as a host (they're apparently notorious for over selling their server).  We don't use GoDaddy, but if our host is the problem, we'd all be having the issue consistently and across devices.  I'm reluctant to mess with our server settings for a fix unless others are currently having the same issue because I'm liable to make things worse rather than better.  Perhaps try clearing your cache?  I think about doing that on my computer, but forget about it on my phone and iPad.  To do this, go to Settings, then Safari (or whatever browser app you use), then you'll see where you can clear history and data.

That's almost always a cookie issue.  I haven't changed anything on our end - have you told your device to not save cookies?

The only other thing I can think of is if you're heading here through a redirect and your browser isn't saving the cookie under the correct site.  If you're not already, try accessing using foodallergysupport.olicentral.com and see if that fixes it.  If that works, you may still be able to access using the redirect once you have a cookie saved under the correct spot.  Hope that made sense?

Been slow as molasses for me the last couple of days.  This morning I gave up after waiting about five minutes.  My internet has been a little slow, but other sites are just lagging by seconds, not like this.
Title: Re: Trouble accessing forum?
Post by: rebekahc on June 08, 2016, 10:12:23 AM
I still haven't had any problems accessing the site at work on my laptop, but I see there's an updated version of my browser waiting to install... I wonder if the site will be slow afterward?  On my laptop most sites are loading fine, though, the internet does seem a bit slow in general.  My only real trouble had been getting my mail to load.  Both DD and I have gotten error messages with that.  At home on my iPad I've noticed another forum I visit is slow or doesn't load, but this site has seemed fine.  I wonder if the issues we're having are related or just coincidental?

I've sent a message to our host, but I'm sure they will want to know as much technical information as possible for those of you having trouble.  I've got Mac's info, but if GN and Hedgie could provide theirs as well it would help.

Title: Re: Trouble accessing forum?
Post by: GoingNuts on June 10, 2016, 08:46:16 PM
At yi yi.  She doesn't have Plica Syndrome, does she?  Elder DS had one knee done 5 years ago (the day my mom passed, in fact), and will probably need to do the other knee at some point.

I hope she has a speedy, uneventful recovery.
Title: Re: Trouble accessing forum?
Post by: rebekahc on June 10, 2016, 09:21:59 PM
Yes, she had a lateral release, large plica and synovial membrane removed and fat pad debridement due to Hoffa's syndrome (caused by the blow to the knee).  On X-ray, her right knee looks worse, but it isn't bothering her yet - hopefully it stays good for a while!  I hope your DS's other knee stays good, too!

Hello, The server is running at normal speed, if they are still having an issue, please send us their IP number which they can get here:
https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=what+is+my+ip+address

Then e-mail that to us and we will check the routing.

Thank you,

I can pull the IPs from your posts if you need me to - just let me know if there's still trouble.

How's DD's recovery going?
Title: Re: Trouble accessing forum?
Post by: rebekahc on June 13, 2016, 09:27:42 PM
Oh good - I'm glad things seem to be better!

DD is recovering as expected. She had her first PT session today - they did a dressing change and some beginning range of motion and strengthening exercises. Yes, Mac, her athletics have really suffered. She was injured Feb. 2015 when a girl kicked her in the knee (just horsing around, but she hit the side of DD's knee instead of the back) with pretty severe consequences, unfortunately. We thought it would heal within a few months, so DD tried out for and made a prestigious team. By the time we realized it wasn't going to heal, she was committed for the season and had to just work through the pain - the coaches minimized where they could, but even so it was a struggle for her. This upcoming season would have been her last, but since we knew she was needing surgery that takes about 3 months to heal, she wasn't able to try out. I doubt she'll get the opportunity to compete her senior year.  :-[

I'm trying to create an alter-ego for my business.

I'm not sure what's happening with your registration, but I suspect it may be that you can't have two accounts with the same email. My suggestion would be to create a sub account.

Choose the Profile button above then Account Settings > Modify Profile > Manage SubAccounts

There you can create an account for your business.

Once you have your sub account set up, you will have a drop down menu near your profile picture to switch easily between accounts without having to log out and in. While in your sub account you can go in and give it an avatar, choose settings, etc. which are all independent of your SC account.

And, if you accidentally post with one account and it should have been the other, you can edit and use the drop down to switch the author.

If you need features/ access that are post-count dependent, just let me know an I think I can go in and alter your sub account's post-count to give you those things.

Hope that helps. If you have any trouble, let me know and I'll PM you for info and set it up for you.

Anyone else having this problem, or is it my phone?
Title: Re: Trouble accessing forum?

It pops up a new window (in the background) on my phone, so I always have to go hunt for it.  The emojis also have text that you can use to insert them - for example the waving hand would be typed : bye : with no spaces between the word and the colons.  I've attached a Word doc that shows what to type for each emoji for you to use if you can't find (or don't get) that separate emoji window.

I think OLI usually tries to do server maintenance when the fewest people will notice.  I, too, noticed there was trouble accessing the forum yesterday afternoon for a short time and then in the middle of the night.  I'm guessing whatever the issue was in the afternoon was repaired during the overnight hours.  If for some reason things go down again over the weekend, please use our Facebook page or the admin email to communicate with us.

I can access today but it is very very slow and it won't load a thread at all at times.  I've logged in and out of my computer to see if that helps.  I posted a couple times and in between had to log back in and out of the site.  I just did that to come post here.

Perhaps the holiday weekend is maintenance time?  Or the opposite, no one is watching to keep things running smoothly?

Unfortunately, yesterday afternoon and evening I was away from my computer (prom dress shopping), so I didn't see the problem until late last night.  I had planned to contact them when I got to work this morning, but it was fixed by the time I got here so I didn't call. Maybe in a few days I'll call or email and ask about it just to satisfy my curiosity, but I'm sure they're busy enough right now without me adding to it.  Of course, if more problems occur I'll contact them right away - I'm hoping yesterday was the final fix, though!

My guess would be that whatever the issues were over the weekend required some kind of server replacement or upgrade and  during that it affected the availability of our content.  I'm guessing the index pages are different from the thread content pages and they migrated them differently, so that's why those were available when the content wasn't.  Again, all just a guess.

I haven't had trouble until this morning.  Couldn't connect at all to the website.

I wasn't sure if my trouble was the same as what others have been having for the past few days.

Hopefully it was just a glitch for me.

No-- management actually was in touch with R and let her know (unfortunately, while she was already at work for the day!!) that they had finally identified the source of the problem, and needed to migrate some stuff this morning, anticipated about a 3h outage.... which seemed to be a little bit optimistic, since I checked about noon EDT, and still had no luck.

Anyway-- they think this will fix the problems and everything should be good to go now.  :)
