The chewing gum hint makes sense. When I was younger, every time I ate I would gag after. No matter what I ate. It used to make me afraid to eat because it would happen with whatever amount of food I ate as well. As a result, I would chew gum like mad. It seemed to make me less nauseated. I would worry if I didn't bring gum with me.

Is it possible that not eating can make reflux worse?
Everything I've read seems to say the opposite, that overeating would make it worse, or eating specific triggers. But I'm having terrible reflux lately, and most days I've ingested nothing (save water)from the time I wake up until dinner (like 6:30pm). Zantac isn't touching it. |

Sorry Ciel, I don't know about your above question.

Some such risks, including bone fractures, infections and heart rhythm abnormalities, are listed in fine print on the drugs' packaging. But the potential for the drugs to exacerbate acid reflux when patients discontinue use -- a relatively recent observation -- is not.

Ciel, and empty stomach definitely can make reflux worse. The trick is smaller, more frequent meals.
Sorry it took me so long to see this.

Just saw this too! I eat smaller meals all day. I also take 40mg. of omprazole everyday, and zantac as needed. It helps.

Yes, I eat small amounts throughout the day, and if I get too hungry and my stomach gets too empty then I have acid pain. I'm on Ranitidine daily. Also, if I don't drink enough water I find I have an increase in pain. |

Yes, and it's taken me 4 years of this to finally realize, over the last few cycles, that it was happening! Mmmm, what a nice little extra treat, eh?
