Just wanted to put out a friendly reminder, especially since we have many new members, to check the label for allergens on products you purchase each and every time as product labels can and do change frequently.

The CADBURY MINI-EGGS are safe. And delicious.
But this year there is a new product called CADBURY MICRO MINI-EGGS .. which may contain peanuts
So make sure to read the label... regular mini-eggs are safe as always, but the MICRO mini-eggs may contain peanuts.
always read labels

Here's something I am doing to help keep track of it all.
*Keep a separate recipe box with companies allergy info and dates/details from when you speak with them.
Periodically call and see if any info has changed.
This is a great way to keep track of reliability, accuracy, and when you've called them last.

Very true. But do not forget to read labels on beauty products and toys (e.g. playdough). Many body creams contain milk protein (e.g. some Aveeno creams)or almond oil for example.
And even medication maybe a hidden source of certain allergens (e.g.Advair ventodiks contain milk protein!!!Go figure )
Good reading

The pharmacist always looks at me like I am crazy, but somewhere I read that some antibiotics have milk derivatives as an ingredient. So I always ask when picking one up at the pharmacy.
It seems like more and more lotions are coming out with milk in them.
And don't get me started about soy.

Oh yes, I know that look! Some pharmacists have gotten downright snippy with me, standing at their counter reading label after label. We've been trying to find DS a daily antihistamine tablet without milk derivatives. They are rarer than hen's teeth here. You would think that a med for allergy wouldn't contain a top allergen, wouldn't you?
*****
I bought an eco-friendly dishwashing liquid (Ecover), and then noticed "milk protein" in the ingredients list.
In our supermarket over the last 6 weeks, I have had no less than 10 or 12 food items that I would usually buy suddenly have their labels changed to include a warning, so now they are off limits. So even if you buy a product every day of the week, please check the label everytime!

Yes, we've had issues with milk derivatives in meds. Some Prilosec capusles use milk derivatives, as do some generic zithromax antibiotics. Oh, and Advair, as someone else mentioned. I'm lucky, at least, that our pharmacist saves all of the inserts and highlights the inactive ingredients for me.

The pharmacist has gotten snippy with me, too, complete with eye-rolling. He said, "Milk, why would there be milk in it?!" Grrrr. |

And try not to read it with a 7-year-old and DH trying to talk to you at the same time. (While it's nice to sometimes have the company and help when grocery shopping, it really does make the trip longer if I have to stop what I was doing and start over. )
I've been lucky with pharmacists. One a couple of years ago when dropping of a prescription for DD asked about allergies to medications and I said “no just to foods” and told him which ones. He said that there are some medications that contain peanut oil. We were still less than a year into our PA journey and that had not crossed my mind at the time.

So, I shouldn't be surprised, but really? Peanut oil in meds?! Does anyone have any examples? I've never asked; bad assumption on my part. Here I think I've got it all down, but since I'd never heard of any before, I just didn't think to ask. We've never had problems, fortunately.

This would be more of a problem for Women who are trying to conceive then for children.

There's an ear drop with peanut oil in it. I can't remember the name now but I posted about it a week or so ago in the section about things where you wouldn't expect peanut to be. |

I think some pre-natal vitamins might have peanut oil too. I really haven't investigated which ones have peanut oil. I just make sure I let the pharmacy know about all of DD's allergies. |

I have had a lot of trouble with the pharmacy too, I'm allergic to wheat and soy and they are in several medications. What I have discovered is that most meds have the inactive and active ingredients listed somewhere on the packet of info that comes with the medication (you really have to look hard in all that tiny font to find it, but it is usually there), so I ask the pharmacist if I can read it each time, he usually makes a HUGE deal about it, but each time I remind him it is do or die, like was said before. We have to be willing to stand up to the pharmaidiots out there.

OK, you totally intrigued me with the Nitro comment--and probably put me on several watch lists with the search I just did
http://encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com/Nitro+glycerin
I won't post another place that gave amounts of ingredients. They (Ironically a branch of the Chicago historical society mafia section) gave 'oil' as a stabilizer--it did not say peanut, but I guess it could be--at the point it is activated, really a non-issue. Also don't see anyone in our family handling any not just added for the government guy now reading my posts-see above comment.

He should know of all people!!! I don't really know exactly why, but there must be some kind of chemical property that makes milk protein appropriete for that use. I know Biaxin is OK bc my pharmacist called the company. I could ask about zithromax, which my son has had before but I did not think to ask then.
