My idea is to emphasize that schools must meet a food allergic student's basic needs before the student can concentrate on learning.

Comments?  Suggestions?  Ideas?  This is my first draft, and I'd like to make a polished version to share.

Oooh-- I like it!! I need a bit of time to reflect in order to make suggestions, but my initial impression is that it's a great idea and in pretty good shape already.

Oooo. Squeel!!! This is so such a parallel to how the nursing field would manage it!! And to think how many folks here said I was way off in my comparison to maslow (and piaget). Oh and erikson, too.

Squeal! is right  I was just thinking tonight of what I could give to my DS's student teacher about food in the classroom.

The one who keeps using food in her lessons . . . .

Something like this would be perfect.

DD, 15 - MA/EA/PA/env./eczema
DS, 12 - MA/EA/PA/env./asthma
DH - adult-onset asthma
me - env. allergies, exhaustion, & mental collapse

I'm glad you like what I have so far! Arkadia, I like the idea of making a chart of developmentally appropriate expectations of kids with food allergies based on Piaget, or similar.

Very nice. The presentation is awesome. I've tried so many times to address all those things and it seems like it comes out in a complicated mumbo jumbo.
The pyramid is just so on the money! Great job.

EXCELLENT. This could be very useful. I've explained this verbally, only to get blank looks (actually I think they - the staff in 504 mtg - "got it" but didn't want to get it). The visual helps a ton! Great job!

I'm absolutely thrilled to have this tool. The timing is wonderful! I just received an email from DS's student teacher about food she plans to use in the classroom. I discussed what she is planning to do, and I included the link to your chart!! Asked her to consider this for now and in the future, in her own classroom, for safe inclusion of all students.

Well, I haven't heard anything back. I hope she takes it the right way. I was extremely polite and tactful, I think. Just something for her to consider as she is student teaching, and when she gets her own classroom. Never hurts to plant the seed, yk?

Thanks again, Momcat, for this chart. It really is very useful.

That's great--and the Piagetian developmentally-appropriate responsibilities and accommodations table seems like a fantastic idea as well!!

I did send it to the student teacher but never had any comments from her. But nothing negative came back, either, lol!

As I said before --- I just wanted to plant the seed. Every little bit, yk . . . .

I wish I had remembered to put this chart in my PowerPoint for the school staff last week.  :banghead: Would have been so helpful.

I need to place it in there now so I'll have it for next year.

Momcat,

I love, love, LOVE your pyramid chart. It really explains all is a very efficient way.

When I clicked on the link, it wasn't there in PDF form. Can I find it somewhere and use it at school this year?

Thanks so much.
