There is no IgE RAST test for Sulfites. You need to be very careful with the results you receive. It is most likely that you had blood drawn for IgG to varies foods and "environmental toxins". Since very there is little utility in drawing blood RAST for 90 foods this is the most likely test conducted.

IgG is not a test for any "allergy" or "insensitivity". If the "Dr" that drew this did not inform you that this is not validated test or recognized by any of the Allergy societies, I would refuse to pay for it out of pocket (many insurance companies wont pay for it because they know the results mean nothing).

I've looked on Lab Corp & Quest websites (2 major labs). Don't see and IgE for sulfites.

Lola, are you sure this isn't for "sulfa". I know they have RAST for some of the drug reactions.

Of course, I react to both. My cousin reacts to sulfa drugs, but not sulfites.

Take care,

Hi Cmayer, I called the company prior to having this done and was told the tests were RAST. The lab they use is QUEST, which is the lab used by my allergist and many other doctors in the area.

I will be really ticked if this is not legitimate RAST testing! The company is http://www.healthwaves.com. They travel around the state doing 'affordable' but legitimate blood testing, including CBC, PSA, Thyroid, etc. They also do public flu clinics and travel vaccinations. They come to a pharmacy in my town once a month.

This did not require a script from my doctor....but is a walk-in clinic.

Can the test be called RAST if they are, in fact, testing IgG instead of IgE?

They don't post a list of the foods in the 'RAST' test online but the technician that drew the blood had a list. I was sure I saw sulfites on the list but could be wrong. Will let you know when I get the results back.

edited to add: My tests were done by Sonoran Quest. I went to their website. They're a major lab. When I clicked on 'lab tests' it sent me to Quest Diagnostic's main website so it must be part of the some company. I have no doubt at to the legitimacy of the tests.....but will find out if it is IgE or IgG.

I have a really bad sulfite allergy as well. It effected me the most with hair color, as I get my hair colored all the time. My salvation came in the form of a Natural Hair Color called Organic Color Systems. Im sure there are a ton of natural hair color brands though, just browse around!
