San Francisco, Up Hwy 1, Humboldt Redwoods
« on: June 23, 2015, 12:21:17 PM »
**Modified title to cover more ground**
Would love some current-ish suggestions for possibly do-able restaurants in San Francisco.

Would be doing touristy stuff for only a day or two on way to another destination.

Dealing with peanut allergy and tree nut allergy.

Thanks!!

((Older kids, so nice eating places would work but also need some quicky eating help too.  No clue where we would stay hotel-wise yet.))

Ajas there is a California chain, outside of In & Out Burger, that has been posted about in a San Diego thread. I think it's a southwest type of place.
Me: Sesame, shellfish, chamomile, sage
DS: Peanuts

Amici's Pizza is great.  We eat there all the time.  There are a few locations in SF and also throughout the Bay Area.  They are a bit expensive, but it's safe and delicious so that's our usual spot.  Www.amicis.com

Also, In-N-Out Burger, Chipotle, Rubios.  Chains are not abundant in SF proper, but the Rubios is in the SF Shopping Center in the Union Square area.  Not sure if the city has In-N-Out, but Marin and other outlying areas do.

If you will visit Marin County, we also frequent Stefano's pizza in Mill Valley or Larkspur.  Cheap and delicious.  And Zachary's Pizza in Berkeley and Oakland is quite popular and is entire!y nut-free.  We rely heavily on pizza with dd's many allergies!

I'll post more when I think of them.  Feel free to let me know more details of your trip and I can assist more.  Have fun!

There IS an In-and-Out near Fisherman's Wharf-- it's between the giant Boudin building and Ghiradelli Square, in a little quirky mini-mall like thing a block back from the pier...

**Titile and destination modified to cover more ground .  .  .

Thanks -- trying to figure out how to do this without much info as to restaurants along the way . . . likely will need to get cooler, ice, and groceries on our way out of city area . . .

Not wanting to stay B&B as I doubt the food could ever be made safe enough . . .

I'll say--most of our trips are done without knowing what's safe beforehand. It tends to work out pretty well.

It would probably be easier to get a cooler and groceries in Marin County on your way out of town.  Parking is much easier than it is in SF.  Mollie Stones is a local market with locations in Sausalito and Larkspur.  The Larkspur one has a CVS drugstore in the same parking lot if mollies doesn't have a cooler.  Mill Valley has a Safeway, two Whole Foods and a Rite Aid.  There is a Target in Novato, but that is probably much farther north than you want to go inland.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance with logistics.  If we still lived in Marin, I would have a cooler waiting for you!

hk thank you!!

I'm betting Safeway will be our saviour and we'll make do from there . . .

Been working on the drive logistics and time-in-car vs time-out-of-car . . . hoping my plans aren't too ambitious, but we'll make it work!

Alrighty,

suggestion for a single, nice restaurant experience in SFO proper ON A TUESDAY NIGHT that might be do-able for PN/TN allergy?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

CITYPASS-- seriously-- the cable-car rides alone will make it pay for itself. Streetcar, bus, etc.

Take the cable car up and down Russian Hill from Ghiradelli sq. at night.  LOVELY.

AND that pass gets you into MoMA, CAAS, Exploratorium, Aquarium, Alcatraz, and-- the thing that I cannot recommend enough-- the Asian Museum of Art.  BEST museum I've ever been in.  (And I've been to several in Paris and London-- The Louvre was pretty cool too, LOL).

Yup.  CityPass.

Also-- be aware that some Safeways now have grind-it-yourself stations near produce areas.  Just a head's up on that one.

Hi,

I used to live in San Francisco and am peanut, tree nut, egg, and shellfish allergic.  Here are a few of my favorites.

Zuni Cafe (very fresh and also great drinks!)

Dosa on Filmore (yes they do make a lot of things with nuts but they are very careful and I have eaten here several times without incident)

Park Tavern (over by Little Italy)

Beretta (in the Mission)

Hope you have a great trip!
