My mom used to make some kind of unstuffed cabbage, but I think it had some sweetness to it. I've never been able to find something quite like what she made. I have a stuffed pepper recipe that almost does it, but not quite. Of course I'm remembering this from my childhood, so who knows. She didn't make it when I was an adult.

Ack, no! I can't stand cinnamon in meat dishes.

GN, yes, I'm guessing lemon juice and brown sugar and tomato sauce. That's the recipe I have for the stuffed peppers and it's close.

That’s a typical sauce for Jewish stuffed cabbage.

I made this and DH and DS were rubbing it in their faces!  Ok...maybe that's a southern thing but they LOVED it.  It was very very good.

I added

1 serrano - and left the pith and seeds of both it and the jalepeno
1+tsp of cayenne
1 T of a good quality Mexican chili powder

I think besides that I followed the recipe exactly
we have left overs for prob one more dinner and a few lunches

Tip of the day - did you know that you can freeze citrus fruit - yep you can and then defrost in cold water of microwave and they are perfect!
.

Thank you stinky this was awesome!!

I just have a similar recipe for the crock pot and this one seems a bit involved. But glad it was yummy!

I have not tried these unstuffed cabbage rolls. But I plan to.

https://www.simplyhappyfoodie.com/instant-pot-unstuffed-cabbage-rolls/

This was dinner tonight.

I used 2 pounds meat instead of one, but otherwise basically followed the recipe. It was good, but not quite as flavourful as I would have liked. We decided it needs more tomato.

But, the cabbage and rice came out the perfect texture. (I used basmati rice...that’s what I had.)

Hmm, I might try to put together a few of these. I'm skeptical of adding the frozen veggies in the "dump" and cooking them for 20 minutes. That definitely doesn't work with broccoli. I'm not sure if it would work with other frozen veggies. Anyone know?

I'm going to put together 3 of these this weekend to use after my biopsy. I'll report back. I'm going to do the bean one and 2 chicken ones.
