Other names for Sesame

(1/1)

SilverLining:
Peanuts are known by several names.

What about sesame seeds?  Is there any other name or word that could be listed on an ingredient list that means sesame?

I realize oil or vegetable oil or seed oil could.  But anything else?

lakeswimr:
In the USA sesame is usually listed as 'spice', 'natural flavor' or 'flavoring.'  Other names for sesame that come from Anaphylaxis Canada's list are ...

benne or bene seed, benniseed, flavor(ing), gingilly, gingilly oil, herbs, seasoning, seeds, sesamol, sesamolina, sesamum indicum, sim sim, tahini, tahina, til and vegetable oil.

SilverLining:
Thank you.  I never even thought to look at Anaphylaxis Canada....and I think that list is also on the CFIA web-site.

I had been looking at a make-up web-site, that lists the ingredients for their products.  (It's Physicians Formula if anyone cares.)  Some products do list some seeds, but I don't recognize the names at all.  Some are probably more well known by some other name. I don't recall seeing any of those names.

For USA:

--- Quote ---You will need to get to know the scientific names for your allergen and where it can hide. For example, maltodextrin can be made from corn.

Also, companies are not required to list the components of ingredients such as “natural flavor”, “spice” or color”, if they are not major allergens.
