Starbucks Hot Chocolate

My 18yr old DS has had Starbucks Hot Chocolate often for the last 13 yrs.  He is PA only. 
While in Safeway I saw that they now sell it in little packets.  The label states that it is manufactured on shared equipment with peanuts!

The last time I checked the actually shop (which has been @ 6 yrs ago when my oldest son worked there) it was safe.  Big mistake on our part to go that long without asking.  We ask every restaurant even the ones we eat at often ever time we go.
I went to Starbucks and asked about it and sure enough......they told me that yes,  their hot chocolate (it's the same as in the grocery store) is made on shared equipment with peanuts.

No way can he have that Hot Chocolate anymore, but.....how has he been drinking it all these years, you can't win at Russian Roulette that many times.

Hope this is not a repeat post, I tried to search but didn't come up with anything from the past.

It is my understanding that what is sold in the store is not the same that is served in the shop.

I would ask to see labeling the next time you are in to make sure it is still safe though.

Companies that produce individual packets often share spaces with other companies which is why shared lines are an issue.

This is why I should always read through a post.  Locally I know of many food allergy members who talk about Starbucks being safe for peanut allergy (hot chocolate specific).  Will need to tell them to ask again..

Oh no!!!!  DS loves this!!  And like your kiddo has been drinking it for years. 

Oh, this is one product where I'd love to put my fingers in my ears and say: lalalalalalalala

I so very much want to stick my fingers in my ears and ignore what the guy told me.

I just called the corporate offices, still want to stick my fingers in my ears!

They told me that the syrup is made from the powder, so just because they are using a syrup it's still not safe.
The customer service rep didn't have the label for the syrup, she told me to ask in the store.  She is told to say that they can't guarantee ANYTHING in the store, it can all be cross-contaminated with peanuts.  She also told me gluten even though I did not ask.

Me again!  I am on a mission......don't want my son to have to give this up unless he really needs to.  Starbucks is a social place for my son and his friends.

I went to two Starbucks today.  I have read the box that the powder (that they use to make the syrup) comes in.  The label reads several cross-contaminated foods one of which was tree nuts but no where did it say peanut.

I want to trust the box.
If anyone learns differently PLEASE let me know.

I'm so disappointed about this.  Dd will be so sad.  It's been our special thing to go hang out at Starbucks since we really can't go to restaurants.

Call me crazy but with this many known PA kids drinking it for years I'm thinking of trying it for mine. We must consume our straight dairy outside of the house due to other child's LT milk allergy.
