Canker Sore Treatment

My peanut allergic daughter has a canker sore inside her mouth.  Any ideas on a medicine or safe treatment for it?  It is really hurting her today.

I do this one if it's really bothering me:


Rinse your mouth with salt water. To make a salt water rinse, dissolve 1 tsp (5 g) of salt in 1 cup (250 mL) of warm water.



Otherwise I try to say away from acidic foods or anything that's particularly crumbly that will get in there and irritate it.

I don't normally use anything, but have used Orajel safely in the past.  I've found that usually the pain peaks just before it gets better.  Hopefully tomorrow it will feel almost normal!

Since I was a child I would use peroxide, and it's worked like a charm. Depending on the age of your child though, this may not work. You have to be absolutely sure not to swallow it. And you rinse after.

I remember getting one as a college student in Italy. Buying peroxide was so hard. It's behind the counter there (or was then) and I basically pantomimed at each pharmacia until one pharmacist got it, wrote down the chemical name for it and I had an epiphany. It is perrosido or something like that.

When I do not use toothpaste containing peroxide I get them very easily. You could start out by judging Arm & Hammer toothpaste. (PA DS doesn't have a problem with it).

Mix equal amounts of liquid benedryl and maalox and swish and spit.

My DS (PA & TNA) goes through periods when he deals with this.  What gives him some relief is to dip his finger into baking soda and hold it on the sore for a bit.  His sores are usually on his tongue.
