DD came home last night, happy and exhausted!  Her 8th grade class went to Washington DC for the week.  The school nurse goes on the trip every year.  The chaperones are all faculty members.

I did a lot of legwork contacting each restaurant and caterer to let them know she was coming and what her many allergies were.  She participated throughout the process, making all key decisions along the way with some guidance.  We had a plan for each eating place.  DD preferred to decide her meal choices ahead and I think it made it easier for everyone.  She had great meals!  She had no allergy issues!  DD texted me after each meal to let me know how yummy it was and that she was doing great!

It was reassuring to have Maeve close by and DD could call her if needed.

I must admit, with everything planned ahead and DD good about texting or calling during the day, I wasn't stressed.

This was a great allergy learning experience for her, once again with key adults around if she faltered.  It opened her eyes to how she can travel and dine safely.  With High School right around the corner these opportunities are extremely important.

Congratulations! That is indeed a wonderful experience on so many fronts. Sounds like it was a very full and enjoyable school year.

I'm so glad that the trip went well.  You're right that these sorts of experiences provide wonderful learning opportunities for our kids.
