dating someone that loves fish
« on: June 26, 2014, 01:14:28 PM »
This is probably going to sound stupid. I have been allergic to fish since I was a little girl. I have heard it was life long. I don't like fish anyway so it doesn't matter. However, I am seeing this guy that loves fish. I have no problem when my parents eat fish around me. My question is , if the guy I am dating orders fish when we go out, if I will be able to kiss him and everything after. Would it bother me HE was the one who ate it?

I'm not sure about fish, but I do react if my DH eats peanuts.  It may end up that you will have to do a little trial and error to find out.  I will say that over the years here I haven't ever heard of anyone reacting to someone who has eaten fish - nuts, peanut and soy yes, but not fish.
TX - USA
DS - peanut, tree nut, milk, eggs, corn, soy, several meds, many environmentals. Finally back on Xolair!
DD - mystery anaphylaxis, shellfish.
DH - banana/avocado, aspirin.  Asthma.
Me - peanut, tree nut, shellfish, banana/avocado/latex,  some meds.

Shellfish, I have problems if my DH has eaten shrimp or something directly containing them-- for sure at least 4 hours or so if he's kissing me-- and longer for, um... other activities.

But like Rebekah, I've not heard of others reporting this with fish as the allergen.

It might be worth trying to figure out just WHICH fishes you're allergic to if this becomes a serious partner-- that way he doesn't make you sick, and has as much dietary freedom as possible.  :)
Resistance isn't futile.  It's voltage divided by current.

Yes, I have reacted after a past boyfriend had eaten fish. Even a kiss on the check results in a reaction.

I am allergic to fish (tuna, salmon, trout etc) and shrimp.

Good luck
