I agree with the author, and fully empathize.  However, he's been living under a rock if he can't see the perfect storm of fad diet, woo, food politics like GMO/organic that have taken over the airwaves.  Not to mention that most of the investigational studies will exclude the most severe cases while including those w/o history but high test results.  Good luck with that Gordian knot.  As a patient I have (1) no recourse now that didn't exist 20 years ago except some contradictory data on OIT (2) fight for air time on both the seriousness of the disease and disaggregating from 'eating-related' disability to mast and basophil activation where various food and non-food triggers exist.

It must be nearly as aggravating for the doctors to broadcast as it is for patients.  The anecdotal stories of allergists who either are history of anaphylaxis themselves or became allergy parents gone through the other side of the receiving news seem to come a little closer to how desperate and massive the problem is.
