Title: soaps, shampoos, and cosmetics
Post by: tsubasa292 on January 15, 2014, 01:51:12 PM
I absolutely HATE that non-food items seem to have no laws regarding allergen labeling and often when calling companies I get vague replies like "If nuts aren't listed in the ingredients we don't add them, but we can make no guarantees that contact wasn't made at some point during the process nor do we have any information concerning the source...." (Thanks Nuetrogena. I did react FYI.) It's really infuriating and I've been reduced to bathing with my shampoo, no easier to find of course, several times. Anyone know of any dedicated nut free companies? I've also looked into homemade body wash thinking it'd be fun but there's so little fact on the internet and so much opinion I'm afraid to try, not to mention the nightmare of finding nut free organic coconut oil, liquid castile soap, etc...

The three companies I've found so far are:
http://www.psico.com/products/vaniply.cfm (http://www.psico.com/products/vaniply.cfm) (I love their lotion and the soap is ok)
http://vermontsoap.com/ (http://vermontsoap.com/) (haven't tried them)
http://www.nurturemybody.com/nut-free-products/ (http://www.nurturemybody.com/nut-free-products/) (at >$20 for 8oz I won't be trying these any time soon...)

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Not sure if any of it is organic, but this company told me last year that their products did not have any nut or peanut ingredient. No idea about possible cross contamination. http://patternbodywash.com/index.html (http://patternbodywash.com/index.html)

My pa/tna daughter uses suave for shampoo/conditioner and dove sensitive for bar soap.

Suave and VO-5 shampoo, Ivory (and Neutrogena) body washes, and Free and Clear face soaps/scrubs.

She is PA/TNA (cashew/pistachio/mango, most notably) and egg allergic, and I'm shellfish allergic.  She is also allergic to aloe.

There are very few types of body washes my PA child can't use. He loves the migraine-inducing scents, the more florid the better. I have seen a larger introduction of almond oil entries into different brands.

Every time I use suave I get horrible painful bumps on scalp (contains soy), Dove I break out in hives (soy) and most neutrogena has sesame so I have never even tried.   I have found Bath and Body works has a aromatherapy line and it has been great for shampoo and conditioner and body wash.  I know that it doesn't contain sesame or soy as I have been ok.  And didn't see nuts listed, but to be honest with you never thought to consider asking them if it wasn't on there.  It's ironic that topical application with soy I will get irritated and hives.  But when I eat it reaction is all respiratory and throat with no rash.
