"The popular belief is that protests arise when large numbers of individuals are fed up with the injustices of their lives. Actually, that rarely occurs. Rather, people rise up when they sense a whiff of hope."

One more.

"In a crisis ... we call for someone with answers, decisions, strength, and a map of the future, someone who knows where we ought to be going – in short someone who can make hard problems simple ...  Instead of looking for saviors, we should be calling for leadership that will challenge us to face problems for which there are no simple, painless solutions – problems that require us to learn in new ways."

Bump.

Glad to have found this thread.

Worth a re-read there, IMHO.

The opening post had this to say:

Quote

Just received an email from our new sped dir regarding a meeting we had.

The following was a quote in the signature line...could I have finally found a good school person to work with?

"Minimize the impact of the disability
Maximize opportunities to participate"
Dr. Thomas Hehir
Director of School Leadership Program

"Perhaps the sentiments contained in the following pages, are not yet sufficiently fashionable to procure them general favor; a long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defence of custom. But tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason."
~ Thomas Paine, February 14, 1776

A long habit of not thinking that bullying or harrassing or excluding a LTFA child is wrong has given a superficial appearance that those actions are right.

A long habit of accommodating the food use and abuse in the classrooms has also given the superficial appearance that those actions are right and required of the LTFA parent.

The REVOLUTION has begun!

"The glory of each generation is to make its own precedents."

~Belva Ann Bennett Lockwood   (American Attorney, 1830-1917)

Google her.  Might find her very interesting.  So might our children as they learn about American history and civil rights history.

One jumping off point to learn about her:
