Indeed.  I always add it to my cakes and brownies too.

Yes.  The best way to make something taste more chocolatey is to add a little coffee, rather than more chocolate.

Keep forgetting to come back and post. The chocolate ice cream is soooo good. I've always been skeptical about being able to make a good chocolate ice cream--not sure why. This was so creamy.   Our ice cream usually turns out well, but often doesn't seem as creamy as I'd like it. I'm wondering if that's because the moisture in the fruit can cause problems. Maybe that's why the texture of the chocolate is so good. And the flavor--yummmm. I did add just a touch of espresso powder (maybe a teaspoon in that whole big batch--I didn't measure). I can taste it, but it doesn't really taste mocha-ey. Just brings out the chocolate flavor.

We made homemade key lime pie ice cream last weekend. I had a similar recipe to GNs, which we've made before, but this time I decided to just modify a basic vanilla ice cream recipe. It turned out great. We add broken up graham crackers at the end.

Today I'm trying the chocolate ice cream recipe from Stinky. I've made the mixture and it's in the freezer to chill before putting it in the ice cream maker. We find that if you get the mix good and cold, it comes out creamier. I added a touch of espresso powder, to add a subtle mocha taste. I'll let you know how it comes out, but the mixture sure does taste good--and rich!

I found Stinky's Chocolate Ice Cream recipe!!!  I made it today, using Hershey's Special Dark Cocoa.  It is dreamy.

1 cup cocoa
2/3 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups milk
3 1/4 cups heavy cream
1 Tbsp. Vanilla

Mix cocoa and sugars together, and add milk and cream.  Beat until cocoa mixture is dissolved.  Stir in vanilla.
Pour mixture into ice cream freezer.

This makes more mixture than fits into my machine, so I have some left over.  I'm going to combine it with some coffee mixture tomorrow, and make a deep mocha.  Maybe add a dash of cinnamon, just for kicks.  ;D

I don't know if this is Stinky's recipe, but it's on a post it inside my ice cream maker manual and I'm sure I read all the ice cream recipes in that thread.

Ingredients:
1 cup 2% milk
1/2 cup sugar
8 oz semi sweet choc chips

1 C half and half
1 c heavy cream
1 tsp vanilla

Then I used the directions for the chocolate ice cream recipe in my manual.

this looks easier (more my style) but maybe I would add some peach preserves like in AB's vanilla recipe = it's the best way to make the ice cream softer and not icey -

I had a chocolate ice cream recipe?   huh

I sold my ice cream machine.......  for major cash too - just wasn't using it

I swore by Alton Brown's Serious Vanilla recipe - and I think Bobby Flay's Cinnamon - but I don't remember chocolate - I'll look though - I keep a book but might have tossed the ice cream recipes.

Key Lime Ice Cream

1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup half and half
1 cup heavy cream
~ 3/4 cup key lime juice

Mix first 3 ingredients well, then add the key lime juice. The original recipe Calls for 1 cup of Key Line Juice, which seems like too much to me. I started with 1/2 cup and kept adding until it seemed right.

Chill mixture well, then add to ice cream freezer and mix for 20-25 minutes.

I garnished it with springs of fresh mint from my garden. Delicious!
