I saw on twitter.

"Boy who couldn't eat now can stomach 12 foods"
http://www.wotimes.com/2015/01/boy-couldnt-eat-now-can-stomach-12-foods/

:paddle: for me - always.read.fully - had to undo my rt.

At first I thought this was just a nice EE article, but now I'm concerned about some of the info in it (although I am glad the boy is doing better).

Quotethe Hargers visited the Gerson Institute in San Diego
QuoteThe alternative dietary Gerson Therapy was developed by Max Gerson (1881-1959), a German-born American physician who originally came up with the idea as a cure for his debilitating migraines. He further claimed it was a cure for cancer and most chronic, degenerative diseases.

"A tale of two unnecessarily doomed aboriginal girls with leukemia"
January 20, 2015
http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2015/01/20/a-tale-of-two-unnecessarily-doomed-aboriginal-girls-with-lymphoblastic-leukemia/

QuoteBrian Clement's clinic has nothing to do with Ongwehowe Onongwatri:yo (indigenous medicines) and everything to do with good, old-fashioned European-American quackery focused mainly on wheatgrass, raw vegan diet, and "detoxification."
Quotethere is still another aboriginal girl with lymphoblastic leukemia who has abandoned chemotherapy, with the blessing of her tribal chiefs and family, in favor of the quackery peddled by a Yankee in Florida. We don't know her name due to privacy concerns enforced during her court case but we do have an update about her condition to juxtapose with the death of Makayla Sault.

"Scientists identify potential marker of EoE disease activity"
http://tinyurl.com/hxmqhqn

QuoteA potential marker of disease activity for a severe and often painful food allergic disease called eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) has been discovered by researchers, possibly sparing children with EoE the discomfort and risk of endoscopic procedures to assess whether their disease is active.
QuotePublished May 16 in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, researchers at the Cincinnati Center for Eosinophilic Disorders (CCED) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center led the study.

Eosinophils and IL-9 promote mast cell accumulation in pediatric eosinophilic esophagitis

...
This study has a number of potentially important clinical implications. It demonstrates the eosinophil is an integral piece of the inflammatory puzzle in EoE and that by specifically removing the eosinophil using an anti-IL-5 antibody, there are secondary effects on other cells such as mast cells. In addition, this study shows, for the first time, that IL-9 is present and likely to be important in the pathogenesis of EoE. As such, IL-9 may provide a new therapeutic target in EoE.

"Figuring out what was preventing Hunter Gallagher from swallowing would have taken a lot longer, if not for an ingenious device — a sponge on a string."

QuoteBut Hunter's doctors at the Mayo Clinic had another idea: a simple sponge on a string developed in the United Kingdom.

"Eosinophilic Esophagitis - Scientific Excitement - Part 1 of 2"
http://foodallergysleuth.blogspot.com/2014/07/eosinophilic-esophagitis-scientific.html

QuoteThe allergy world was abuzz this past week that a major research breakthrough for Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) was published in Nature Genetics (1), spear-headed by Dr. Marc Rothenberg's lab at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. For anyone dealing with this devastating allergic disorder, the news was welcome, but what does it all mean?

"Eosinophilic Esophagitis - Scientific Excitement - Part 2 of 2"
http://foodallergysleuth.blogspot.com/2014/08/eosinophilic-esophagitis-scientific.html

QuoteMany factors contribute to the complex interplay of nature (DNA) and nurture (environmental effects on DNA expression) in both health and disease, and this is true for EoE and other allergic disorders.
QuoteCAPN14 is clearly one piece of the complex machinery that scientists are trying to reverse engineer.

QuoteResearchers at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital have developed a ground breaking diagnostic test for eosinophilic esophagitis, or EoE.

QuoteIt also differentiated between those whose EoE was in remission and those who didn't have EoE at all.

QuoteThe test uses a method known as gene expression profiling
