I think almonds are a pretty neutral flavored nut.  But maybe you could also use almond butter. I have sometimes used pretzels where nuts were called for and as long as you eat it within a few days, they work pretty will for the crunch factor.

I might try this. I wonder if crushed almonds would be strange where peanuts are called for.

Had these recently at a BBQ.  YUM!  I have not yet made them myself, but they were made with Sunbutter and omitted the peanuts, and were very good.  They were safe for dd.  :)  She loved them.
