Gelatin allergy....aside from "gelatin" on ingredient label, does one have to do avoid fish, beef and pork?
Daughter reacted to the varicella vaccine, and had a throat spasm after eating Dum dum gummies. Blood test showed class 3. We are going off gelatin for her next EOE scope to see if the eosinophils in her esophagus calm down.
Anyhow.....anyone with a gelatin allergy....do you avoid meats as well? TIA!
Wow. No experience here with gelatin allergy. My common sense and cooking knowledge would say that certain cuts of meat would be ok, but not others (avoid anything with connective tissue, or processed). But that is a wild guess. Good luck. I hope you get some real answers.
Thanks hedgehog!
I agree with HH that some cuts might be okay versus others, but since gelatin can be from different sources, I wonder how you'd determine what the root allergy is? All collagen? Or just from beef? Or pork? Or...? It seems like if you could narrow it down, it might be worth avoiding that animal all together for a while to see if you gained even more improvement in the EE.
Thanks...maybe I should call the varicella manufacturer to determine the source of their gelatin. About 5 min after the vaccine, she had major itching of skin, eyes, nose, inside throat, needed albuterol too. :(
Oh my goodness. Wow, no experience with that one, but I've heard of gelatin being made from fish as well.
It's nice to see you, but sorry to hear about a new allergy. :bye:
It's very nice to see you too!! :bye: :)
Yes fish also.....ugh!!
You have to be aware of yogurt and marshmallows, too. :-(
Dandies marshmallows are gelatine-free!
Most gel cap medications are in gelatine. It is in hair products, medical lubricants (including the one my physiotherapist uses), old school film rolls, and possibly pea soup that has been boiled with the bone.
