This is the almond butter that Mt. Sinai recommends for Almond challenges, which DS passed. It is absolutely delicious, but at the time of his challenge over the winter, I was only able to find it at Whole Paycheck or Fairway.
Now I'm seeing it at my local independent grocery, Stop and Shop, and best of all - BJ's - where it cost less for a large jar then I've been paying for a small one at these other locations.
Love. This. Stuff.

Yum, I stocked up on Barney Butter last summer when we went to Lake Placid.
Unfortunately, I can't find it here in Canada :(
Ali
WTH is going on with the price of Barney Butter? I'm no longer seeing it at Stop and Shop or BJ's, and the price is through the roof. I don't see any other almond butter prices going up like this.
I really hope they aren't gouging, because they know they are the only almond butter that is free of X-contam. :disappointed:
Oh, me, too. Because I know GN loves her some Barney Butter!
It's because the price of almonds skyrocketed. California drought. Increasing demand + lowered supply + increased production costs . . . boom.
Incidentally, Barney Butter has a soy-free facility, as well. Or did the last time I called.
I have seen it at Wegman's and SuperTarget. It was $8.49 a jar at Wegmans a couple of months ago and was about $10.50 a jar at SuperTarget at the same time. I can check again this weekend when I go shopping.

That was my assumption, but I don't see other Almond Butters' prices increasing the same way. It's more than double what it was about 1 1/2 years ago. :disappointed:
Regular cross-contaminated almond butters *have* gone up in price. So have raw almonds.
We pay 50% more for the raw almonds we use to make DH's almond butter (we roast them and purée) because his normal almond butter kept going up higher and higher. That old standby of his (not safe for me, but okay for him) has gone up 60% in cost.
Anything special or niche is going to have higher production costs because the supply is even more limited, so the production costs aren't being spread as broadly.
I just had BB for the first time - SO GOOD!
but it was 9.99 for a small jar......
I'm going to have ds try it today after school
We easily go through a jar a week - and that's just DH and me, LOL!
