Title: Post Cereals
Post by: anxious2008 on November 01, 2011, 11:10:11 AM
I was calling Kelloggs and Post and what a diff. with customer service and answers. kellogs stated the Wheat All Bran Flakes were safe and safe from shared lines etc.
Then i called Post. I asked about AlphaBits, Shredded Wheat and Coco Pebbles.
Was getting conflicting messages and then stated if on shared lines would say may contain. Explained that she informed me that Shredded Wheats (all kinds) were made on shared lines and nothing is notated on the box right in front of me. She then put me on hold and still had no answer.
But stated Shredded Wheat are on the same lines as nuts.
Coco and Fruity Pebbles are in a nut free facility and nut free lines.
Alphabits is in a facility with almonds but not on shared lines.

Still do not think will want to give Post cereal to my PA/TNA kids.

Didn't Post used to be Kraft? Is it its own company now? I don't remember Post ever being a company that I trusted.

ok. I couldn't find it among Kraft's brands on their website and nothing on the Post website shows it either. I thought maybe it changed.

Maybe it has. I haven't looked in a while.  I just assumed that since I had never heard otherwise, that Post was still part of Kraft.

Interesting Ralcorp info (if it's all true)

So, per that wiki link:

In late 2007, Ralcorp signed an agreement with Kraft Foods to acquire the Post Cereals brands, thus returning to the major branded cereal business. The acquisition was completed August 4, 2008.

Hmmmmm . . .

is THAT why the Shredded Wheat is all "shared lines" and NOTHING is stated as such on the labels (they just retained the no-tell policy of Kraft when they bought Post)?

OK< I'm pretty pissed right about now.

Also saw this in the wiki links:

Post is pretty honest when it comes to gluten free labeling (and says it on the box).  Granted that can be a line of whooey, I know.  I felt reasonably comfortable with DS2 having them though they are not his fave (Fruity Pebbles).   I did call to ask about the nuts but it was specific to the Pebbles.   They are a fave of my gluten allergic child - I usually make Fruity Pebble bars for his treats for school because it's something the other kids are interested in having whereas a gluten/egg free cupcake not so much.

I do know that the premade Fruity Pebble treats are a may contain for nuts.
