You Goddess, you.
NOT that I would ever use this for a school sanctioned event.
(Oh, but I will dream about it forever and ever, amen.)
I have even better uses for it. ;D

Get that Cupcake Queen!
woudln't that be a site...me, my giant cupcake(that is allergen safe, no milk, no eggs, no nuts.......)
"mine is bigger then yours" :P
I love that. ;D I am actually thinking of getting that cake pan; I figure one giant cupcake is much easier to bake and frost than 4 dozen little cupcakes. ;)
I almost bought that cupcake pan for DD's birthday party (not school---our private party), but had a heck of a time finding one. I did find it at Linens-n-Things but it really isn't that big. I was looking to make a cake to serve 16 kids and that one wouldn't have worked. I thought it might be nice for smaller, family parties. I like Chanda's idea of sending in "mine is bigger than yours". I hate to be so obnoxious but sometimes I'm pushed into it :) Chanda-I am seriously thinking about it if I feel pushed---how funny would that be....DD pulls out the ginormous cupcake. Love the thought of the looks (the adults)--the kids looking makes me feel too horrible to actually follow through with this plan.
I just found this:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=7555196
It looks as though she does other 'flavors'!
I LOVE that!.
I like to see to it that if my child has to have a different snack because someone brought in cupcakes for a bday that he has a bigger and better one. This would sure make a statement!
I love the thought, too debbieq...I think I'm going to have to try the pan out and see if my egg-free cake recipes work well with the 3-D (sometimes they crumble easier). I'll have to place a hidden video camera on DD's bag to see how it unfolds. The look on the adult's faces would be worth the cost of the hidden video camera and cupcake pan ;)
I bought the pan.
I am going to try it out for TGiving.
Going to give thanks for all the Cupcake Queens, or something like that.

I think the collection is quite cute, but I wish they had the cupcake dress in adult sizes---I would have fun giving it to a couple of Queens for a holiday gift. I bet they'd think it was cute and wear it. I'm talking about the child's dress with cupcakes all over it--light pink. Can't you just see one of the Queens walking into your school in that ;D

hee hee hee . . . were they all Kappas??!! ;D
I have a couple lists I did one night in a fit of venting.perimenopausal.madness (BE-ware ye butthead private school headmasters and ye snide CKQ's . . . )
just haven't posted them yet.
Kappas or Tri Delts. You read my mind--I was thinking of putting that in last night--but thought better of it. I'm glad you did,.t have the same moral quandry I did.
Disclaimer-no, we are not dissing ALL Kappas and Tri Delts. You just had to be there at the time. Cupcake Queen breeding ground, the Greek at this school was.
I just guessed Kappa because I'm pretty sure the very FIRST time I was asked what my Daddy did or what kind of car I drove, the question came out of a perfectly lipsticked Kappa mouth. . . won't comment on hair color from bottle when mine was natural . . . betting she'd be all over her kids' Cupcake Bill of Rights!
Oh I know I'd better apologize and disclaim right now and clarify and quantify. This rouge witch just *happened* to be a Kappa. There were a few "GDI" gals who would just have well fit this situation. they just didn't ask the question first. ;D
I hate it when the word I'm trying to think of or use isn't right. ROUGE. ROGUE. Dog-noggit.
I'm pretty sure at least half of all cupcake queens spawned from theChiCupcake Omegas at Baylor didn't they? You really shouldn't give Texas Cupcake University all the credit... ;)

Man chokes to death on cupcakes
February 25, 2008 - 7:32PM
A man choked to death after gorging on cupcakes at a nightclub party in South Wales.
Adam Deeley, 34, collapsed after he began choking when five cupcakes got stuck in his throat.
Fellow revellers and nightclub staff tried to revive him, but were unable to clear his airways.
Deeley and a group of friends decided to stage a cupcake eating competition at the end of a party on Friday after discovering leftover buffet food.
"Quite a spread had been laid on and when the party finished there was quite a lot left over," one guest told The Sun newspaper.
"Someone suggested seeing how quickly they could eat the mound of fairy cakes that were left. But suddenly someone started choking."

I really need to purchase that giant cupcake pan for the end of the year. DD missed out on class treats (I didn't know until after she came home) on Monday and Tuesday---gummy bears one day & ice cream the next day. A couple of weeks ago (on a VERY hectic/chaotic/crazy--you get the picture) day I got an email around 10:00 AM that they were having cupcakes at Noon--a "surprise". Or...the teacher would just tell Mrs. So-so (I like her a lot and our DDs are friends) that they couldn't hand them out (& in the St. Elmo's whisper the teacher would say..I just know she would..."because of you-know-who's-peanut-police-mommy"). I quickly whipped up a batch of cupcakes and frosting and raced up to the school. I've let a lot slide this year because I'm trying to follow DD's lead. Her teacher has been great in so many ways & I guess that has softened the other events/violations.
I just want to have practiced to perfection making the Giant Cupcake for any last minutes "surprises".
I saw cute cupcake candles at the pharmacy today---I think of all of you every time I see cupcakes  ;) :console: ;D
Just a word of advice, I've got the huge cupcake pan and it is kind of tricky.
I suppose I should start a thread in COOKING so we can deal with our triumphs and failures with that pan! Not *quite* as easy as it looks to get both halves cooked all the way to the center without having the outside dry as a bone . . . if you see the pan in the flesh, you'll see what part of the problem is so far as pan design.
PP -- meanwhile, you can always get three small tiered pans (Wilton) and make a mini-wedding-like-cake instead. ;D Could probably even carve it in such a way to appear to be a giant cupcake. AND look at the muffin pans around right now -- there are some that are oversized and nearly twice the size of a standard storebought cupcake or the regular muffin/cupcake tin/cup. DOuble- ;D

Perfect for anyone looking for a great end -of-year teacher's gift, huh?
I mean, at least for some teachers. More like a 'good-riddance' gift, but hey.

I thought the cake would be hard to make after I saw the pan. Especially because I have to make egg-free cakes and the consistency is 'different'. I made the baseball cake (the 3-D ball pan) and I had to make about 3 cakes before I could get one cooked all the way through without being burned. I suspect the same problems would happen with the Giant Cupcake Pan and it would be difficult for DD to take in her bag. I'd have to go in with it and then it wouldn't have the same desired effect I would want
The jumbo cupcake pans that MB is now using look like a perfect alternative. Perfect
I've just read through this thread for the first time . . . . too, too funny!!
What I'm wondering about with the giant cupcake is how you would cut it into serving pieces. With our eggless cakes, I don't think I could get it out of the pan.
This thread reminds me of one Valentine's Day party at my son's preschool. The teachers told me they would have the kids decorate heart cookies.
I didn't have a heart cookie cutter, so had DH run to Walmart for one. All he could find was a very large heart-shaped cutter.
I used it and it made HUGE heart cookies!!
DS took the humongous heart cookie to preschool to decorate and it was sooo funny. I have pictures of DS' heart cookie sitting in front of him and the other kids' tiny little heart cookies. The kids were so jealous of DS' big big heart cookie --- tee hee ;D
I would think a generous spray of cooking spray would work. Someone else may know a better alternative for you if all of them contain soy. I know the one we use does, but it's not one of our allergens so I haven't compared the competition.

You don't cut it.
Your child gets to eat the whole thing because he or she has missed out on so much. This is after whipping out "my safe {giant} cupcake."
The look she or he hopes to see is the jaw of every kid and adult in the room dropping, kids drooling with envy, etc.
;D  ;D
It is just a 'cupcake' :-* Not meant for sharing. ;)
If your cupcake doesn't get done in the middle, scoop out the gooey part and fill it with frosting or candies. Even more scrumptious!
Ooooh! That sounds yummy. Maybe a nice gooey pudding filling. Mmmmmmmmm
Just thinking of "cupcake" and alliteration here. Assonance, I believe it is. I really can't get more specific than that.

LET THEM EAT CUPCAKES!
Our calendars runneth over with celebrations this time of year. Since none would be complete without the requisite cake to mark the occasion, you'll have plenty of opportunities to try a new alternative: CUPCAKE CUTIE. These double decker delights are the creation of baker Nancy Dreszler. You;ll have lots to chose from, including carrot, coconut, red velvet and even banana batter. The frostings are just as varied. Try mocha for a more sophisticated crowd or strawberry for that little birthday princess on your list. Each cutie is topped with a handmade candy decoration, customized to suit your theme. You can even order them individually boxed for a unique favor.
www.cupcakecutieonline.com
This cupcake queen gets even better...click on the link, go to flavors. If that doesn't get you, "Our Cupcakes" will.
I think I'm gonna puke :disappointed:
The cupcakes themselves are a cute idea. I may steal that design to make my own. And I don't see the fact that they not safe as being any worse than the local bakery.
BUT I really don't like the wording of the ad. Makes it sound like kids MUST have cupcakes. Like any child without one is being unfairly deprived.
QuoteQuoteIf your cupcake doesn't get done in the middle, scoop out the gooey part and fill it with frosting or candies. Even more scrumptious!

so far, I haven't had a single issue with "undone centers". The cupcakes have actually been more evenly cooked than the smaller ones I've cooked before. I mean, a cake cooks more evenly than cupcakes. But these have been succulent and moist. I don't even scoop them out, I just get a long thin pastry bag attachment (I use a ziplock with a teeny snip off one corner) insert the nozzle and fill... I was trying to figure out a way to fill them with cheese cake filling.
Chocolate cheesecake filling.
Of course, with filling, I refrigerate.
Someone please give this woman a tiara.

She reminds me of a 'valley girl'.
I just watched this episode of Good Eats:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_ea/episode/0,,FOOD_9956_56368,00.html
It starts with Alton looking in the window of a snooty upscale cupcake bakery (Chez Gateau de Cup), then being told he needs a reservation, and can't have one until next week. He gets angry with those who have made the simple cupcake into some cloying cups of condescention (or something like that). Very funny.
From the tidbits that are printed on the screen:
A cupcake by any other name:
France= petit gateau
Spain= pastel
Germany= kleiner kuchen
Netherlands= het cakeje
In 2005, the Texas Legislature passed a "Safe Cupcake Amendment" making it ok for kids to bring cupcakes to school
(I'm sure many here remember that)
Very good episode, though. Funny, as usual, and making fun of fancy-schmancy cupcakes, which is better.

http://www.ars.usda.gov/research/publications/publications.htm?SEQ_NO_115=178083
juicy tidbit from this great read: "Control cupcakes exhibited low to moderate springiness, stickiness, denseness, moistness, and rate of dissolving."
EFFECTS OF SUGAR AND/OR FAT REDUCTION ON THE STORABILITY OF OATMEAL AND CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
http://www.ars.usda.gov/research/publications/publications.htm?SEQ_NO_115=178088
take a gander at this exciting passage: "Storability influences consumer product selection. Staling, part of storability, is the progressive non-microbial deterioration of quality; fat, sugar and moisture levels are influential. "

Now that is just too true and scary.

Okay, one for the Beatles fans...
"Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm 504?"
Here's a pan that bakes 4 cupcakes....cupcakes that are definitely larger than the average, but not at an 'i hate all of you' size. ;D They are 3" wide and 4 1/2" tall. Definitely tall!!
Could prove veeerrrrry useful this year. :)

So lilpig--what are the four things in the middle? Do you bake a cupcake top there that you attach with frosting? Pondering the pancake puffer.
Totally would not fit in our cupacake holder.
I like!!!!
Yes, it's like baking the 4 bottoms, and 4 tops...then you assemble. The tops are also made entirely of cake as well. You really only need a little frosting to cover the coned top, unless you load up on the frosting and make it even bigger!!
I reeaaaaallllly like this pan.
Nice. A mix in that pan will make 6-8 cupcakes. A mix in a regular size pan makes 24. So these are about 4 times the size of a regular one. ;D
They're Baaaaaaack!
Or, should I say,
WE're BACK!

Bumping this because I just got an email that tomorrow (day SEVEN of the school year) sonmeone is bringing in effing cupcakes. :banghead:
I am going to find a big cupcake pan tonight.
On short notice, instead of buying one of those big cupcake pans, you can always cook in an actual cup. If you have custard cups or ramekins, those work well. If not, you can use a ceramic coffee cup. Any of those would be nice and big, but not so over-the-top it's obviously meant to serve many (like the really big cupcake pan).
I have a few mini loaf pans, I'm going to try that and hopefully not overcook it.
The teacher is awesome and is going to refuse the cupcake as well b/c the teacher is furious that this parent got the cupcakes in under the radar so to speak before the class party guidelines went out.
I am making a cupcake for the teacher too (or brownies, haven't decided yet).
Btw, this guest hates baking!
Well, we could really have some fun with this, I'm thinking:

Ummm, if it is 150 pounds, how exactly does it qualify as a cupcake, rather than just a really big cake?
Good point!! :dunce:

OK, real quotes:
“America is an enormous frosted cupcake in the middle of millions of starving people.”
~ Gloria Steinem quotes
“Some of them were cupcake shots - they were moving out of the way or whatever you want to call it. Some of those 3s he was making were unbelievable, and when you've got it rolling like that, give him the ball, man, give him the ball.”
~ Tracy McGrady quotes
Who's he? :watch:
“There's so much focus now on obesity, but a lot of parents just don't see the harm in one cupcake. They don't see the magnitude of how much kids are really getting.”
~ Kirsten Frandsen quotes
“We're encouraging them to bring healthy snacks, but when a parent comes up with a tray of sweets, I'm not going to turn them away. I don't want to be the cupcake killer.”
~ John Young quotes
