Thank you so much for this list! Being the paranoid mommy, I always double check, but it is so great to have a good list of "hopefuls" already compiled. We use and love lots of these, and I see lots of new goodies to try, too! Yay!

We were recently on the hunt for barbecue sauce, and I emailed Famous Dave's... I got emails back from the president or CEO (can't remember which now) who has a peanut allergic child... He was very understanding of our needs. He then passed along the info to someone who could research the sesame issue. It took several weeks - but I finally got confirmation that they are free of peanut/tree nut/and sesame. Woo hoo!

So there's one to add to the list.

Oh - and we've had great responses from Pirate Booty as well. No peanut/tree nuts or sesame in Pirate Booty, but it's been about a year since I called.

Under restaurants - we have had great luck with Chipotle.

Sesame is a new allergy for us and I haven't had time to research everything I like to use yet.

Thanks for the heads up for Famous Dave's BBQ sauce - I'll have to look for that one!

I did not check for nuts/peanuts, but I was told that Aunt Millie's breads with a code A are CURRENTLY made in a sesame free facility.  The code is on the package followed by about 8 numbers.  All other codes are not safe.

I don't know how safe code A is in terms of cross-contam risk.

I would suggest that anybody interested contact them to confirm safety info.

This might also be an option:
http://www.enjoylifefoods.com/our_foods/bagels.html

-------------------------------

I checked that this was ok for sesame a while back (not sure about nuts).  Processing procedures can change, so people would want to contact the company to confirm safety info.

http://www.berlinnaturalbakery.com/

-------------------------------

I have noticed that more and more companies are labeling for sesame that is an intentional ingredient although some are better than others about controlling cross-contam risks.

General Mills and Kraft and Amy's have been doing it for a while, but I was told that even companies like Mars and ConAgra have started to label for intentional sesame (I'm not saying I trust the companies for safety because they each handle cross-contam and suppliers differently, but I'm happy to see more companies labeling for obvious sesame).

Frito Lay chips (Lays, Tostitos, Rold Gold pretzels, etc.)

I was told that one type of their chips now contain sesame.

New here, just got an allergy test that showed I was allergic to sesame seeds so now I am trying to find out exactly what I can eat.

here is one site I found that gave a list, not sure on the reliability.

http://www.gratefulfoodie.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/NutFree-and-Sesame-seeds-free-snacks.pdf

I will call some product hotlines tomorrow and see what they tell me and I will report them here

I'm not familiar with all of the products, but many listed there I do consider safe.  (I'm allergic to peanuts and sesame seeds.)

However, I'm not in the US, and some products are safe in one country but not the other.

~~~
Since you are new to the allergy world, I just want to make sure you realize, there is no law requiring that companies label something as "may contain" if there's a risk of cross contamination.  You need to question different companies.
I'm also not sure whether sesame or sesame oil is required to be labeled if it's an added ingredient in the US.
thank you for the response and the information.
I just heard back from a few companies. Digiorno says that sesame would be in the ingredients list if it was any part of the product.
Wheat thins said the same thing
Frito Lay said that they use absolutely no sesame or sesame product in any of their products (i called specifically for sun chips)
cheez its said they would label if there was any sesame as well.
none could promise with regards to cross contamination
Welcome to the board chenson2!
I don't remember what type of chips they had told me contain sesame, but I did do a quick search and found this older thread about Frito Lay and sesame:
http://allergy.hyperboards.com/action/view_topic/topic_id/18872
Here is a link to the Frito Lay page for that product:
http://www.fritolay.com/our-snacks/rold-gold-everything-bagel-pretzel-rings.html
You should be able to find lots of nutritional info on their products here:
http://www.fritolay.com/our-snacks/full-list-of-brands.html
Unfortunately, it's not uncommon to be told different things by different people at the same company.
Thank you
that is interesting information, i will avoid those pretzels for sure.
i also called digiorno back and asked about cross contamination possibility. the rep i spoke to said they thoroughly clean and disassemble/reassemble machinery after producing each product. she assured me that there would be no cross contamination. i ended up eating some of the pizza and was fine.
i should note, im not really sure how severe my sesame allergy is. i went to the allergist earlier in the week and did the skin prick test and it showed a mild sesame allergy. i want to ask about blood testing or or getting desensitized to this if possible because i am paranoid now even though i havent had a bad reaction, if any.
You should follow your allergist's advice and avoid.  However, since you don't have a strong reaction history, I would request that the allergist perform an oral food challenge to confirm the diagnosis.
Here is some info on this type of test:
I agree.  Initially my reactions were mild.  But I continued eating sesame (because we didn't know what I was allergic to) and the reactions got more severe over time.  I don't think that happens with everyone....but it obviously happens to some.
Thank you for the advice. I am seeing him again on Tuesday and will ask. I do find it odd though that he did not warn me whatsoever about where sesame can hide on food labels. He told me nothing besides the fact that I had a mild skin reaction to it. If I had not gone home and researched the allergy, I'd have had no idea about how hard it is to avoid.
Unfortunately, most allergists really don't know how to completely avoid an allergen.
When I was originally diagnosed I was told by one allergist that since sesame seeds are so small they couldn't really do me harm.  Yet, I was reacting seriously just from eating bread that ran on the same line as sesame seeds.  Another allergist told me it was impossible to completely avoid sesame seeds because they are cross contaminated in "everything".  She tried to convince me that if I hadn't reacted in over 6 months then the diagnosis must have been wrong and I should go celebrate with a Big Mac.
Hi Sesamefree, welcome to FAS   :bye:!  I'm not a big fan of "safe" lists because they can get outdated very quickly, but they can be helpful as a starting point if people then confirm the information for themselves.  I had to take a space out of your link before it would work for me ... this is a helpful site to make links smaller http://tinyurl.com/.
I think you'll find that a lot of people prefer to just continue posting on their various site(s), but it's helpful to know about your site and you might also consider placing a link to our site and other sites with sesame info on your blog.
Feel free to come back and join us here at FAS anytime.
FWIW it's at the end of the ingredient list called out in "spices" so I deliver the bad news that it's there along with the good news that the brand called it out on the label instead of hiding it in "spices".  I think it's listed as sesame extract.
All products in the U.S. must list the top eight allergens.  This includes peanuts and tree nuts.  Sesame does not have to be listed in the U.S. However, there are a few companies that will list sesame.  General Mills will list sesame. You can look at the food allergy statement on their website. Call ConAgra Foods and Hillshire Farms.  I believe they will list sesame as well.
I was wondering about the Fritos, Tostitos ,  and the lays, I seem to be having trouble  with them. I get itchy and my lips swell. I’ve also got a soy allergy, as well as the peanut and the sesame and tree nut.  The DO NOT EAT, the Bachmans pretzels are made in a building where sesame products are manufactured, my lips swelled, I got itchy... cross contamination with those, otherwise they’re made in a peanut and tree but free facility. The Cc warning is under the allergy warning about the wheat.
I am allergic to peanut, sesame, and assume nut.
I eat lays and Tostitos regularly.
I do not know mine are made in Canada or USA though.
