Title: Setting up for high school
Post by: SilverLining on March 02, 2012, 09:25:11 AM
I was speaking with someone at the school about other issues, and before hanging up I asked who I needed to talk to about Elmo's IHP.  I want to know school protocol wrt students with epi-pens.

He says, we all know the protocol.

It's preferred that the student carry their own epi-pen.
List (with pictures) is in the staff room so all staff are familiar with who has epi-pens.
Training to all staff is done every year.

He isn't sure if they want students to provide a spare epi in the office.  There are several that the school purchases.

So, off to a good start.

And, he didn't mention a peanut ban.  I don't care if there is one, I just hate when staff considers banning peanuts as protecting all allergic students.  It's a tool, and useful for some.  But, when teachers open with "we ban peanuts" they seem to have no idea that any other allergy could be serious.

So, I'm feeling good right now!
