Title: Flatout - flatbread
Post by: SilverLining on February 15, 2013, 12:54:50 PM
Is anyone familiar with this company?

www.flatoutbread.com (http://www.flatoutbread.com)

The packages have a "may contain" warning for milk and cheese.  I called and asked about peanuts and sesame seeds.  I got an immediate reply that neither is in their facility.

(Why would the CSR knowing the answer so fast make me feel less trusting then if she looked it up?)

Anyway, just wondering if anyone eats this stuff.  It looks good.

We do!  Makes fun very thin pizza's and yummy sandwiches.  The Rosemary Olive Oil one that is shaped like a figure 8 is great for Hamburgers!

We use their products.  Just used the flatbreads to make pizzas.  Routinely use the light foldover ones for sandwiches.

We use them too.  Texture takes a bit to get used to, but they're great for wraps.

Yes, DD is allergic to sesame.  She has eaten a lot of this bread, however.....

Flatout is on my list to call to reconfirm that they don't use it in their plant.  The packages in our stores do not contain sesame and I called when we first used them and at that time they did not use sesame.  Because of DD's recent anaphylaxis to another "standard" bread source for us....I am double checking all.

I can call next week and post their answer.

Still waiting on an answer.  Their online phone number goes to a polite answering service, not the bakery.  I know because the woman answered "Temperpedic"! and I was like....what???? and she apologized and said she had 2 calls come in at once.

beds...flatout bread....kind of funny!

Anyway...she can not answer my questions but promised to get me answers....still waiting for a call back.

She is at an inbound call center and is not an employee of the company.

THIS PRODUCT IS NO LONGER SAFE FOR SESAME!

They now use sesame in their plant.  "It has good nutritional value".  Well, yes, it does, but that is not why I asked!

I wrote them yesterday through their online form. I got a reply at 6:00 am today!

-----------------

Good Morning Mac,

We do not have any types of peanuts in our facility at all.

However we do use sesame which is included in our everything foldit. The everything foldit is only ran on line 3. We have 3 lines here at our facility. You can identify the line  by using lot code information on the package, this information is sprayed on in a black ink, it could be anywhere on the bag and the code will start with the number 1,2 or 3. The 1,2 or 3 identify which line the product was ran on. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me again.

Thank you and have a healthy day!

I am going to try them. But I think our family rule is that I am the only one who buys them.

The way I will remember this:  if I were creating a password based on sesame, it would be S3sam3

Here's the response I got.

We do use sesame in our facility.  Any time this product is ran we perform a full allergen clean-up following the run, followed by an allergen test to verify cleaning was thorough enough to remove all sesame from the equipment.  Feed free to reach out with any additional questions.

Wow. That is so different than what they told me. I wouldn't use the product based on that. I'm going to contact them again.
