Does anyone know of a way to make hot chocolate without dairy/soy/rice milk? Our last safe brand of soy and rice milk is no longer safe and homemade rice milk tastes gross (rather, it doesn't have much taste at all). Winter is coming, meaning many wet and chilled days ahead. Hot chocolate is a staple in this house.
Anyone have a good and creamy recipe? I was going to experiment with blending sunflower seeds or avocado with water, cocoa powder, and maple syrup or something... but hoping someone here has a recipe already so I don't have to invent one. If all else fails, I can use coconut milk from a tin but trying to avoid it if there is another way. (Safe coconut milk is expensive and difficult to source.)
Homemade oat milk is easy and has a creamy consistency - would that work?

I haven't tried making oat milk yet. It is also on the to do list.
I bet this oat milk recipe would be really good with some nice chocolate melted into it

I cannot find safe steel cut oats. Do you think rolled oats will work?
I think they would - you probably wouldn't need to blend them as much. I'd probably soak them for less time, also. It would be inexpensive to give it a try at least.
Update: I don't know why it took me so long to figure this out, but tinned coconut milk is safe and seems to be working well in most recipes, including hot cocoa. Yay!
That is great, Space!
