US Foods

US Foods, a Blasdell, N.Y. establishment, is recalling approximately 700 pounds of beef product due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The product contains peanuts, known allergens which are not declared on the product label.

The beef fajita strip product was produced on November 25, 2014, December 10, 2014, and December 15, 2014. The following product is subject to recall:

5-lb. cryo packed cases containing two 5-lb packages of "BEEF CUT STRIPS FOR FAJITA."
The products subject to recall bear the establishment number "EST. 7817" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The item produced was shipped to other US Foods divisions in Norwich, Conn., Peabody, Mass., and Buffalo, N.Y.

The problem was discovered by US Foods when the company was notified by a U.S. Food and Drug Administration alert and became aware that the cumin in a spice mix used to formulate the beef fajita strips may have been contaminated with peanut residue.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.

Consumers and media with questions about the recall can contact Roberto Bellavia, Director Food Safety and Quality Assurance, at (773) 491-1411.
