We are heading back to Mt. Sinai next Tuesday! Both kids will be having a baked egg challenge. I'm starting to get nervous. I'm still having a hard time using milk or butter for baking (I do it, but it's hard) and it's been a year since our baked dairy challenge. I have no problem buying products with milk in them. I emailed our nurse at Mt. Sinai, Ingrid (I just love her!), because I wasn't sure if I should make the muffins with soy milk or cows milk. I am to make them with cows milk. Oh my, I'm going to be a wreck, baking with milk and eggs.
I've been talking to the kids about the challenge and how it might not be a success for one or both of them. We talked about how it's ok to be disappointed if it doesn't work out and that if it goes well for one and not the other we will be happy for the person who passes and disappointed for the other. We will leave either way with new information about their allergies. They both passed baked dairy and DS passed beef and an amoxicillin challenge. I'm worried that they think they will automatically do well with baked egg because all of our other challenges at Mt. Sinai have gone so well.
Please keep us in your thoughts and if you pray, say a prayer for me please, that I can keep it together on Tuesday. Thank goodness for DH, he is very calm and gets us all through these challenges!
I'll be thinking of you and your kids today. Good luck with the challenge. Whether they pass or not, you will have a better understanding of their allergies when you leave. Take care and be sure to give us an update.

 You got it, Mary. Good wishes coming your way. :smooch:
Wow. Crossing all fingers and toes!!!
:crossed: :crossed: :crossed:
Oh wow! You seem to be preparing them so well for it. I'll be crossing everything I've got.
The kids are in good hands. Do you have anything else on the roster that day?
Thanks everyone! It's going to be a long few days. No plans afterwards. I figure if everyone is ok we will do a little sightseeing afterwards. DS has been wanting to go to the top of the Empire State.
Hoping we can get the pizza challenge set up for December.
Good luck Mary M. You know the nurse at Hopkins told us with DD's baked egg challenge that it's not a pass/fail challenge but one to set the dose. So they really can't fail; they just might end up with a very small starting dose.
One awesome thing: If they can tolerate some baked egg, they should be able to get the flu shot.
Anyway, best of luck. I'm still trying to get my kiddo to actually have baked egg in her diet. She's resistant and we're not forcing the issue.
Crossing my fingers!
I'm so encouraged to see so many more of our kids getting some things back. (And yes, MM, I totally agree that it's hard to cook with milk and weird to use it at all in the kitchen!)
DS has a cold so we have to reschedule. We are going in December.
Oh no! Well, I'm glad they were able to reschedule so soon.
Sorry, that's too bad!
We head out to NYC in a little over an hour. Our baked egg challenge is at 1 today. The muffins are baking and the kitchen has been decontaminated! Wish us luck!
Good luck MaryM.
Fingers crossed for you!
Good luck!!
crossing everything
Wishing you good luck and steady nerves! Hoping for the best!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!
I'll have DD go rub both rabbits' feet for you.
:luck:
Neither kid passed. DD ate 1/2 and had a bad stomach ache. DS ate the whole muffin and now has a terrible stomach ache. DD almost passed out in the bath room. She went pretty limp and I carried her out and tripped and she hit her head on the floor and I hurt my shoulder. Her blood pressure dropped but came right back up. I can't remember what the dr called it. Not an allergic reaction. I'm an absolute mess and very nervous about our ride home.
OMG, what a stressful day dor you! I'm so sorry.
Is DH or some other adult with you?
I'm so sorry, Mary. Can they keep you under observation for a while? DS2 anaphylaxed fully at his milk challenge. It wasn't fun to stay that long but we were there for 4 extra hours of observation.
Oh MaryM, I'm sorry. I hope both kiddos are resting comfortably and that you have a chance to relax.
DH is here. We will be here for another 30-40 minutes.
Oh I'm sorry. ((Hugs))
Can you ask about the blood pressure thing. And why no Epi?
vasovagal response, maybe?
What a bummer, Mary. :grouphug: poor kiddos, and poor MOM.
So sorry to hear that, Mary. Hope the kids are feeling better soon.
oh wow. That's too bad. I'm so sorry, Mary! :console: I was so hoping for a pass ....
I will totally understand if you want to stay off for a while but if you can please update. Let us know you're all ok.
CM, that's what I was thinking.
Sorry to hear the news. We had a fail like your ds', but the allergist called it a pass! :insane:
I hope your dd is ok! :grouphug:

That's it CM! I'm still a wreck. On our way home in horrible NYC traffic. Everyone is fine. Kids are hungry and I don't want to eat on the road.
Our nurse was ready to Epi but once DD was in the chair with her legs elevated her blood pressure went back up and her color came back. She was dancing around the room within 40 minutes. If it was a reaction the dr said BP would not come back up without the Epi. Does that make sense? I'm exhausted and still a wreck. More about the fainting or going limp, not sure she lost consciousness. I feel so awful that I tripped and she face planted on the floor but I think I broke her fall bc she only has a small red bump. I panicked and couldn't even go on the room until they said she was ok. Really hating myself right now :(
A bit of wallowing is definitely in order-- what a let-down.
Just-- no self-loathing permitted. You all had a bad day, but it was so not your fault, Mary. You're a good mom.
You all walked away. Are you all home yet? Hopefully a little R&R down tempo.
Thank you ladies
We should be home in about 30 minutes. Hoping for a snow day tomorrow. The kids are fighting so all it well ;)

Sorry it was so stressful! I hope the rest of your evening was uneventful.
So sorry:( a fail is hard enough with the added stress of a vaso vagel response- so scary
Both kids are sound asleep. I'm icing my shoulder. I am not sure if I'll sleep tonight even though I'm exhausted. The who thing was so scary.
Watch some light entertainment on a tablet or phone or laptop with headphones if you can. On our camping nights such as this I stay up until about 2 am then figure 4-5 hours catnap wake up at 7. On the more perilous night I tag team with DH for 'round the clock. Try some Downtown or Dr. Who or Sherlock, Covert Affairs. Entertaining, episodic.
I like to read escapist fiction-- something totally mindless and just passing through the brain.
Keeps me from thinking about things too much, and gives me time to wind down a bit.
I hope you have a snow day--and that you finally got some good rest.
I did sleep a bit and we do have a snow day! No snow yet. We should run to Target to get snow boots for DS. I'm bummed the kids didn't sleep in. Not sure how my bruised shoulder and knee will be today.
How disappointing for your family. I'm sorry. Glad there were no problems during the night. Enjoy your snow day!
So sorry for the failed challenges, the fall, all of it, Mary! I hope you shoulder is okay. keep icing today, if not. don't push it. :grouphug:
Thanks. Dr. Nowak just called to check on us. I told her all is well but the kids are a bit gunshy about the pizza challenge. She said the milk numbers are better than the egg but can wait if we want to. I think we will schedule for February. We have to try.
I think you are making the right decision to delay.
I am sorry that it was a fail. DS1 is still bummed he cannot pass an egg challenge because unlike the nut challenges, he really did like the taste of eggs. I considered trying a baked egg challenge but he failed that one by accident :/
so sorry!
