Title: OCR: Charter Schools and Section 504
Post by: Macabre on May 16, 2014, 02:29:12 PM
This week the Department of Education stated that Charter Schools must comply with Section 504 and with the ADAAA--must provide FAPE.

(I get this enewsletter at work--was so happy to see this.).

VERY TIMELY.  New charter elementary opening near here and I may just figure out how to drop a copy of this to them.

Just being helpful.   ;D

6/3 is the new Wrightslaw charter school boot camp in NYC covering this with guest speaker DOE Deputy Chancellor. I seem to remember Mystic Valley as a charter school. The administrative issues surrounding the charter can get thorny especially when admission is a hazy lottery system with preference to siblings of currently enrolled students.

I might send DH.

If anyone is in NY having inclusion issues NOW is the time to make contact with your state Department of Education Deputy Chancellor because she just gave a huge speech on inclusion and special education at the seminar.
