My ds is at college and sick as a dog.  the school physician says he thinks he has walking pneumonia and prescribed the inhaler called Dulera in addition to antibiotic.  He has asthma and  takes singular and uses ventolin as needed.  Waiting for his regular asthma dr to call me back, but wanted to see if anyone has experience with this inhaler?

Just did additional research and see it has a black box label.  still waiting for dr to call.

Guessing it is the same black box label that all the combo inhalers have - there was a study correlating the LABA component of the combo with an increased risk of death from asthma.  In those studies, the LABA was not in a combo med, it was a separate medication.  I'm fairly certain that they took the LABA only meds off the market and only do combos with a steroid now.

Dulera is pretty much the same as Advair or Symbicort - they are all just different combinations of one inhaled steroid and one LABA.  I did a month of Dulera samples, but it seems that Symbicort works better for me.

I take Dulera. It's potent on suppressing my asthma. Feels stronger, or at least more effective than Advair did. I have noticed no particular side effects while on it for the past 2 and a half years. Though I do wish the cost wasn't ~ $70 for me after insurance.

Had one thought - make sure that he rinses out his mouth pretty well after using it.  Since it's a steroid, you can end up with thrush if you don't.

thanks for your input and will remind him about rinsing!!
