Help! We have IOFC scheduled for Thursday and DS woke up do miserable without his allergy meds since Wednesday. Can I give him anything or do we need to cancel the IOFC?

I can't say for sure since I'm not your doc... but OUR doc always wants DD on her regular drug regimen for food challenges.

Just know that you can't do SKIN testing under those conditions-- on occasions where we've needed to do SPT and also wanted her to have antihistamines, he's administered them in-office and we've waited an hour or so before doing other procedures.

We can't be on antihistamines for food challenges.

Can you do some other things like decongestant and nasal saline spray?

otherwise yeah, you may have to cancel.  But you'll have to check with your allergist.  Fall is the worst time for us to do challenges or testing.  We just don't do it!  Can't be off that antihistamine for any time in the fall.

Our allergist wanted no antihistimines for fear they would mask a reaction.  It might be worth a call to see what they say.

DS2 - peanuts
DD -  tree nuts, soy and sunflower
Me - bananas, eggplant, many drugs

I'm calling on Monday to cancel. He just can't take it. It's extremely dry here right now and we have farmers harvesting crops, which even makes things worse. We will have to reschedule for February. Maybe the third time will be a charm ( we had death in family on our first attempt).

DS was miserable all day and I just don't want to put him through this any more.  And yes, doctor wants him off all allergy meds for 7 days.

Gave him both Benadryl this morning and will get Zyrtec tonight.

Thanks for the replies. :)
