I will (HOPEFULLY) be needing good recommendations for quick reasonably priced food in Washington DC area. We are avoiding PN, PB and Peanut Oils.

We will likely do one "special" meal and the rest lower cost meals.

Tabi,
Where in DC will you be traveling? It's helpful in order to provide good recommendations.

On or Near the National Mall:

  • National Gallery of Art:  DD has safely had pizza at the cafeteria between the West and East Buildings
  • National Museum of American History: DD has safely had pizza at the cafeteria (on the lower level--overlooks the gazebo)
  • Air and Space Museum: I believe there is a McDonald's in the museum.
  • I'm pretty sure that we've also had hot dogs from the food stands on the mall (the Park Service ones in the little buildings with black roofs); we've snacks (chips or an ice pop) from them as well.
Chinatown/Penn Quarter

  • Austin Grill: DD has safely had the burrito (no sauce). I cannot remember the exact name of the burrito but it had chicken in it. We also had guacamole and queso but did not have the chips because we were told they were not safe (we had plain tortillas instead).
  • Verizon Center: There's a McDonald's there but it's crowded and kind of dirty.
  • National Portrait Gallery/American Art Museum: We've not eaten there because there are so many restaurants near by.
  • Clyde's: This is a very food allergy aware chain with multiple locations in the DC area (other locations in DC include the original in Georgetown and Old Ebbitt Grill). Our first trip to the Chinatown location was not a good one but our second trip was great and was in line with other Clyde's restaurants.
  • There is a Chipotle in Chinatown/Penn Quarter and there is also a Fuddrucker's on the corner of 7th and H Streets.
  • There is also a Legal Seafood.
Capitol Hill

  • U.S. Capitol tour: DD had a snack in the cafeteria; we were touring in the afternoon. It is posted that you cannot bring food in; however, the guard let me bring in safe granola bars once I showed him our EpiPens.
  • Union Station: There is a McDonald's near the gates for the trains. I know that DD has eaten safely at Flamer's (which is down in the food court) but I cannot remember if it was that location. There is also a Chipotle, Sbarro, Subway, and Taco Bell. There's a Johnny Rockets; we've eaten safely at other locations.
Georgetown

  • Clyde's: This is the original location and is on M Street. They are very allergy aware.
  • Johnny Rocket's: This is also located on M Street. We have eaten here with DD years ago.
There's a Zoe's Kitchen in Ballston, which is on the Metro line. There are none in DC proper.  DD gets the chicken entree with a Greek salad instead of the beans and also has the hummus and pita. We do not get the desserts there.

We have also eaten safely with DD at Mon Ami Gabi in Reston and Bethesda. We have also eaten safely at Coastal Flats in Tysons.  Coastal Flats is part of the Great American Restaurant group, which is also very allergy aware; there other restaurants include Carlyle, Artie's, Sweetwater Tavern, and Silverado.
"Oh, I'm such an unholy mess of a girl."

My DD will be traveling to DC without family this spring, so I'm scoping out past answers about food.  I don't know the specific locations they'll be visiting yet, though.   Thanks for all of the listings from last year and before!

DD was taken care of well at Legal Seafood near the Spy Museum. She only has PA.
