$2,000 for 5 sets of epi-pens!

Went to refill dd's epi-pens.  They are all expired.  We usually keep one in the school office, one on dd, one in her ballet bag (3 nights a week, one of those an hour out of town), one at home, one at grandmas where they spend a lot of time.

It is usually $100/set.  They are now $400/set.  GGA.

Time to look for coupons, and/or pare down how many sets we can get away with.  I'd like to say dd can keep one set and keep up with them.  I don't actually see that happening enough to feel she is safe though.  She has forgotten them several times this summer going places.

I"ll ask dh.  He said he researched it before getting the Rx filled. Something to do with epi-pens going generic next year so they're jacking the prices up.  And we have a high deductible insurance, which works fine for local doctors who never charge me anyways, but not so good for something like this!

ETA - dh says it was that card that got him $100 off the price.  It is not actually a 0 co-pay, despite the name.

Yes, it will cover a co-pay up to $100 or $100 off your copay.

I asked my insurance co why they only cover a fraction of the epi pen and nothing of the auvi q, I was told they were not popular meds.  Ummm?

Our insurance covers a percentage of Epi pens, nothing for Auvi Q's.  Both coupons are for $100 off.

I just got one set this time, she carries one and school has their own set, RN full time., Thankfully....I have refills.....so I will refill, one in my purse......others at home...from past, not expired yet

I have Kaiser now......$30 for twin pack, one set a month.....we are on Cobra so its $$$ per month.....but luckily epi pens are convered, they wouldnt take coupon though.....but not complaining...

I ask everyday.....all the time.....12 1/2 now.....she needs to be bringing it...she is getting annoyed   "YES MOM"  but hey.....I will keep asking.

They are OTC here and I'm always worried the ins. will tell me nope not paying.

We usually get 3 sets because they are obscenely expensive.  I found that Sam's Club has the lowest price.  DH has a business membership so they gave us an additional (small) discount on top of the $100 coupon.  I believe it came to approximately $380/set.  The pharmacist felt so bad for me.  When he saw a refill order come in for us, he called to order a fresh set so we would get the longest expiration date possible. 

Our income has dropped a bit and we were recently able to get our children insured with CHIP.  $5 Epi-Pens and Inhalers (the Flovent was killing us too)!!!!  AMAZING!

I don't begrudge you $5 epis or inhalers at all, and surely not since it's due to change in income status in your family.  But something is wrong with our healthcare system when the costs range from $5 to $400+ for the same thing for different people.

Different rant there, sorry.

I've heard good things about target prices, and if you have the target redcard, you get extra off  or as a rebate or something (5%??)

Goodrx.com or the goodrx phone app can search the best prices in your area. If you have the coupon I don't think you can add the goodrx discounts but it's worth a try.

Red card (Target) doesn't discount prescription drugs.
