FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - September 7, 2011 -Best Food Cash & Carry Inc. of Maspeth, NY is recalling its 14 oz Raisin Golden packages of Deer Raisin Golden because they contain undeclared sulfite. Consumers who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.
The recalled “Deer Raisin Golden” were distributed tri-states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut retail area stores. The product comes in 14 ounces, clear uncoded plastic package.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspector and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in the 14 Ounces packages of “Deer Raisin Golden” which were not declared on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfite per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sensitive individual upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites. Analysis of the “Deer Raisin Golden” revealed they contained 11.07 milligrams per serving.
