Was at Walmart Supercentre yesterday in Vaughan (Centre & Bathurst).  Saw that their Great Value brand of ice cream now has a large peanut-free logo on the packaging!! Great news :)

note: this may not apply to all sizes and flavours so always read packaging labels carefully!!!

I sure hope that leaks down to the US. I haven't seen any walmart frozen treats without warnings (some for some funky things too).

Makes me wonder if they are repackaging Chapmans...

I know Trader Joes repackages name brands under their own label such as Sunbutter.

I am pretty sure they repackage Swanson broth - the difference being that Walmart is honest on their labels and says shared lines with wheat.  Which dang answers so many questions earlier in our journey that related to mystery hives and tummy bugs but since the label read fine on Swanson's, I never thought to question.  But when I checked the Great Value brand it was like a lightbulb went off.
DS1 - Wheat, rye, barley and egg
DS2 - peanuts
DD -  tree nuts, soy and sunflower
Me - bananas, eggplant, many drugs

I'll be keeping watch for that trend to arrive in my area!  Right now, all our Walmart brand ice creams and frozen treats have warnings on them.

FWIW, I do sincerely appreciate Walmart's labeling...

It may only be available at Walmart in Canada so far, but hope it comes to the USA soon too.  Quaker peanut-free granola bars were only in Canada too, but I have heard Americans mention they are finding them in the USA now too :)

When we order the Canadian ones from Peanut Free Planet.

I'm wondering if we should mention Canada in the subject line so no newbies misunderstand?
Me: Sesame, shellfish, chamomile, sage
DS: Peanuts

Hi Macabre,

I modified the subject line to say 'Walmart Canada' :)

p.s. Too bad that new ice cream facility is not ready yet.... construction seems to have stalled  :-/

Store brands are made by other companies.  Chapman's used to make a different store brand of treats.   It is possile they now have the contract for Walmart.  (Usually it's kind of easy to see because the packaging and products are so similar.

I haven't looked at the Walmart ice-cream though, so I'm not sure.
