Necessary, not reasonable case...which one is it? Links?

I remember there was one or several court cases that used the wording 'necessary' and explained the standard was not 'reasonable' but 'necessary'.  Does anyone know the names of those cases and have links to summaries of them?

Letter to Zirkel is the classic citation for this.

Resistance isn't futile.  It's voltage divided by current.
